transferring to a new school in the middle of the year was probably one of the worst things that could happen to someone who went to school. at this point in time, everyone already found their friends and where they sat at lunch, what teachers they get along with, and who they were in the school environment.

y/n didn't know the first thing when it came to stuff like that. he wandered through the hallways, glancing at the groups of friends who seemed so comfortable with each other. the cliques were already established, and y/n felt like an outsider looking in. maybe that could be his clique. he frowned deeply and clenched his fists.

when he entered his first class, the teacher introduced him to the class with a brief, "everyone, this is l/n. he's new, so make him feel welcome." the teacher's words were met with polite nods and a few curious glances, but no one made an effort to approach him.

y/n found an empty seat at the back of the classroom, and he kind of hopped someone around him would turn their heads and introduce themselves, but no one did. it got him a bit upset, maybe a little mad, but he had to repeat to himself that if he was going to make friends, he couldn't be that. and that it would take time and that he had to be patient.

and he didn't like that.

people were avoiding him. like, actively going out of their way to not be associated with him. they were treating him like the plague.

he caught whispers and long glances in the hallways, and no one spoke to him directly. he had a target on his back, but he didn't know why.

it wasn't until a week had passed that y/n found out the reason for the avoidance. he overheard a group of students talking in hushed tones, their words carrying across the hallway.

"did you hear about l/n?"

"what? uh, nothing other than he likes fish. that's all he said in his introduction."

there was a slight giggle but it was cut off quickly. "well, the reason he's here is because he got into like, this huge fight at his old school."

a gasp came. "no way. what happened?"

"i guess he just completely lost his temper and beat the crap out of some guys who were bullying him."

y/n's heart sank as the pieces fell into place. so that was it. word had gotten out about what happened at his previous school, and now everyone was scared of him.

but him beating the crap out of the kids who were making fun of him should've fully been justified. it wasn't like he wanted to, he had to! they've been picking on him for months and he got tired of it. usually he can control his emotions well, but they got on his last nerves.

avoidance was happening everywhere. during lunch, he would sit alone at a table in the corner, trying to ignore the curious glances and stifled giggles from nearby tables. even in gym class, where he thought people would be obligated to interact with him, but he was wrong. no one wanted to be his partner for activities, and he was always the last one picked for teams.

it got so bad that he cried to his mom about it. and all his mom was able to do was hold him tight as he sobbed in her shoulder, having to listen as her son talk about how no one wanted to be his friend and how he hated himself.
