Fix It Marriage

He left early in the morning, and then I placed the ladder back in my neighbour's garden. He didn't sleep at all last night. I thought he could fool me but he couldn't. He was awake the whole time. I was ready to fight with my parents again. I wanted to be there. I said I am going to be there.

" Mom, dad, we have to go somewhere today."
" Nina, I know today it's Aaron's hearing."
" So , we are going right?"
They both didn't say anything.
" You would get to see that he is innocent, proved in front of the judge. We could hear his side. Please. Even if you don't, I am going."
" Nina--"
" Dad come on, I don't know what else to say to you, you don't want to hear his side at all. He tried his best , but you didn't even let him stand at our door! Why do you think I am defending him so much? I know, how he always puts me first and always respects me and my decisions. He protects me, he comes running from wherever and however he is when I call him. He bought an entire restaurant for me even if he hated it because I was in trouble. Why are you not believing him? He was so good and kind to you , even when I asked him to be a jerk to you."

Fuck, what did I just say! Someone needs to stop me from taking these monologues!
Both of them stared at me.
" Actually we are coming with you to the court."
I slammed my forehead.
" Sorry."
" We need to talk though. Whatever you said , explain."
" Yeah , right, that --"
" Are you talking?"
" Yeah--"
" What trouble you were in?"
" It's a very long story --"
" We want to know. Or else it's cancelled."
" No no, I will tell you everything."
" Go on."
Both sat in the living room and I stood in front of them.
" So,--"
I was scared for my life.
" So, actually, at the beginning -- I had a boyfriend, since college, his name was Andrew, you know Andrew right?"
" The football guy?"
" Yeah, so we were dating and we kind of made a pact that we would get married."
" What ?!"
" Wait there is more--"
I inhaled and continued.
" So, I wanted to marry him, and then you forced me to marry Aaron, and that's why I was refusing so much."
" So when he came here for the first time, I asked for his help to be the bad guy so Andrew would look good in front of you and you would agree for my marriage with him."
" That's why he behaved weird that day."
" Yeah, But then things kind of got weird. He started getting jealous of me and Aaron. He fought with me almost everyday. I tried so hard to convince him. He wanted to go to New York and so he wanted to be married before it. And you all wanted Aaron. It was tough. Aaron helped me too in this. He even told me to tell you that he is divorced and all. But then that day-- that day , actually he hated going to any of Aaron 's restaurants so I took him somewhere far. But then things got ugly , he started accusing me, raising his voice at me and creating a scene at the restaurant. So I called Aaron to request him to end the marriage and he heard me crying so he rushed there leaving his work and bought the restaurant we were sitting at so that he could throw Andrew out."
" What?!" They were so shocked.
" Yeah, he consoled me, that was the first time he told me about Melisa, his ex wife."
" That Andrew harassed you? Why didn't you tell us?"
" How could I? You didn't know anything."
" Are you okay?"
" Yeah, I am, because of him. He tried everything to keep me happy and safe. He fought with Andrew and nearly killed him. He didn't even say a word even though he liked me because I loved someone else. He is not what they say."
" Nina this is too much to take."
" I know. Do you recall the time when I came back home drunk?"
" Yeah " my dad looked at me , not happily.
" It was Andrew who left me , drunk, alone at his restaurant. Aaron, he helped me, left me here, told you that he got me drunk, he covered for me, he took the blame for something he didn't do."
" Nina, you should have told us all this earlier."
" I know, but you --"
" Just leave this here, we will talk later, we should leave for the court or we will get late."
" Okay, are you mad at me?"
" Not now, later."

We left for court. We were silent in the whole car ride. I entered the court with my parents and started looking for him.
" Aaron!" I shouted in excitement. I forgot that it was the court. It wasn't started yet so I guess it was okay. His eyes lit up as soon as he saw me.
" Nina, you are here." He held my hands and then immediately released after seeing my mom.
" Sorry "
He greeted my parents. My parents actually smiled a little.
" I am so glad to see you both here, Mr and Mrs Brown. Thank you. It means a lot."
" It's alright."
Aaron's parents greeted mine.
They sat together with them on the nearby benches.
" Did you see?! Did you see?! They smiled at me." He was excited as a little kid.
" Yeah I know." I smiled at him.
" How did you do this?"
" Actually, I told them everything."
" Everything? What is everything?"
" Everything aaron. From the beginning."
" What?!"
" Yeah."
" So how did they react?!"
" Uhm I don't know, maybe not well. We didn't speak the whole ride here."
" Oh "
" But don't worry I guess they are not pissed at you anymore."
" Well."
" Aaron, all the best. I love you."
" I love you too. " He kissed my forehead.
" Don't worry okay, just look at me."
" Yeah "

Just then, I saw her. I saw Melisa. A tall blonde woman with dark red lips. She was wearing a suit type clothing with high heels. As my eyes turned towards her, Aaron looked behind him.
" That's her." He said.
I nodded.
" Yeah, of course."
She glanced at me.
" Look at that bitch."
I said to him and he laughed.
" Let her come out of the court, I will see her."
" Darling. I am not fighting another case." He was laughing.
" It's starting I guess. You should go."
" Yeah"
" Aaron."
" Yes?"
" I love you."
" I love you too."

She kept staring at us the whole time.
As Aaron went towards his lawyers she came to me.
" His new girlfriend I suppose?"
Her voice was as clear as the crystal.
" What do you care?"
" As a woman, I do care for you."
" Stop this nonsense, it's not going to work on me."
" I trusted him once, like you. Don't repeat my mistake."
" I won't repeat his mistake, of trusting you." I looked at Aaron, but he was busy with his lawyers.
" I am going to destroy him today."
" Not even in your dreams."
I wish I could choke her neck.
" You have to start looking behind his hot body."
" Stop it!"
" Wait, did you two had--?"
" Stop talking."
" Your loss, he is great in bed."
" Shut up!" She was getting on my nerves.
" Are you guys really together?"
" I don't want to talk to you."
I tried to leave but she held my hand.
" Stay away from him, he is going down, he will take you with him."
" Why are not leaving his back? What did he ever do to you?! He gave everything to you, he did everything for you, he loved you so much Melisa, I don't know how could you not? He wasn't over you for so long. You left him at your wedding day? How could you do that to him? He -- he is so -- "
Aaron saw me talking to her. My face didn't look pleasant at all. He came towards us but I still couldn't stop talking.
" Why did you do this? You both had it all, why did you throw it all away?"

Was I crying? Yes. Somebody got to stop me from taking these monologues. He looked at my face.
" Any problem darling?" He was worried.
" No "
" Darling huh? Nice one, do you remember what you used to call me?" She smiled at him.
" Nina, let's go." He took my hand and got me out of there. She stared at us until we left.
" What did she say to you?" He asked
" Nothing "
" Are you sure? Why you look --"
" Nothing Aaron, it's just , I might kill her tonight."
He smiled.
" Okay, but then we have to cover for you ."
I smiled back at him.
" Don't listen to her okay?"
" Yeah."
" That's my girl. Now go sit with your parents. The judge is arriving."
" Okay "
