THEY IMMEDIATELY GOT ready and went to the party. Lucy wore a light pink crop top with high-waisted light blue ripped jeans with a bikini underneath. It was a pool party afterall.
When they entered Topper's house, they were handed a cup filled with alcohol and Lucy was sure that the entire side of Figure Eight was here. Half of the people she'd never met before.
Loud beats were playing on the radio, people were chatting and laughing, people were jumping the the pool, kissing, drinking, getting high, puking. This party was gonna be titled 'the party of the summer'.
Rafe was supposed to be here and Lucy just wanted to be away from him. Their relationship was supposed to be built on trust, honesty. And he had lied to her. That betrayed everything they've built.
If he lied once, how did Lucy know that he wasn't gonna lie again? She didn't.
Him lying showed that he didn't trust her. And that ruined everything. When you get into a relationship, you're supposed to be honest, even in the bad parts. Because in a relationship, you fight for each other in their worst moments.
How could Lucy help or trust Rafe when he kept everything hidden from her? Finding out from Kelce? That was low.
Lucy just wanted to date somebody who she trusted. She wanted to know that if something bad were to happen, he would tell her and they'll get through it together, like any couple would. Not keep things from each other, find out the wrong way and fight and not trust each other.
That was toxic. And Lucy couldn't stand to be in a toxic relationship. It was wrong. She didn't deserve it. She deserved a man who talked with her about things, didn't keep things hidden, and wasn't toxic.
Rafe wasn't always like this. He used to be sweet. He used to be funny. His own father and insecurities ruined him. He constantly has his fathers voice in the back of his head telling him that he was a failure, a disappointment. And the drugs clouded that voice out for a few hours, a few simple hours of peace.
If only Rafe saw him the way Lucy did. The delicate, sweet, funny, kind Rafe. The old Rafe that used to help their old neighbors clean their home. The old Rafe that used to walk people's dogs when they needed help. The old Rafe that loved kids and talked about how he always wanted a little boy and girl. The old Rafe that would care about his studies. The old Rafe that didn't hate himself so much.
Lucy didn't understand how Ward could do that to his son. His beautiful son. His gentle and soft hearted son that had turned so violent because of him. All Rafe ever wanted was to hear the words 'I'm proud of you and I love you' from his father. And those words never left Ward's lips. And when they did, they weren't directed towards him and only Sarah.
Sarah was the favorite. It was obvious. Ward would do anything for Sarah. Rafe and Wheezie on the other hand, they were the black sheep. The ones that were avoided, that lacked attention, the ones that begged for their parents affection.
Sometimes Lucy feared if Wheezie would end up like Rafe. Wheezie always begged for her father's attention. Wheezie practically had to raise herself without realizing it. Her dad was always dealing with business or Sarah, their stepmother was too busy watching television, getting her nails done and living the full rich life to realize how badly their daughter needed affection.
No matter what age they were. Every person needs love too. Wheezie was only thirteen. Most families watch movies together, cook together, shop together, eat together, play board games together. Not the Cameron's. They were all stuck doing their own thing.
Lucy didn't think that Ward realized he neglected his children. In his mind, he thinks that Rose is taking care of them and that their fine. That if something came up, they'd mention it. Ward's mind was too wrapped up with work to realize that he had completely abandoned his children.
