LUCY WAS WALKING onto the porch at the Thortons house. Topper was upset as someone purposely sunk his new boat that he had only had for a week. And his mom and grandpa blamed him.

Topper never really had a dad. Well, one that was around. His dad was always on business trips and when he wasn't there he was in his office working. And Topper knew better to argue or try and have a decent conversation with him.

The only times that him and his father ever see each other is at dinnertime in which he doesn't want anyone saying a word after grace and on Topper's birthday and even then all he really says is "happy birthday, here's some money, why don't you throw a party?" Every birthday Topper had a party which involved a shit ton of pizza and heavy liquor.

Topper never actually said he minded the neglect from his father but deep down it hurt. It hurt because he knew people didn't live forever and one day his father would die and he couldn't even say a good memory at his funeral because there was no memories. Topper was upset because life was short, and one day he'd be gone and Topper would be alone, not even knowing how to tie a tie.

Lucy knocked on the boys front door. Topper answered. Topper had messy hair and was dressed in an oversized white t-shirt with shorts and white socks. "Hey" He grumbled out. "What brings you by?"

"I just wanted to apologize for what happened to your boat. That's fucked up. Do you know who did it?" Lucy asked as she entered the house.

"Yeah, those shitty fucking pouges." Topper said as he closed the front door.

"How do you know?" Lucy asked with furrowed eyebrows.

"Because, me and Rafe may have gotten into a little.....disagreement with Pope" Topper said as Lucy scoffed.

"Please tell me you didn't beat him up." Lucy begged that that wasn't the cause, but deep down she knew it was.

"He's the one that started it! He stole groceries and tried to act like he was delivering them. We tried to be cool with him and we saw he had a box of beers and we thought 'oh cool maybe we can drink some beers and swing some golf' but of course Pope argues and we defend ourselves. Now, my moms pissed and I don't have a boat!" Topper shouted as Lucy ran her fingers through her hair.

"Maybe he was just delivering them and thats why he didn't give them to you guys. Ever consider the most common fucking thing before to result in violence?" Lucy argued as she rested her elbows on the marble counter top.

"You aren't defending those pouges, are you? I mean, Rafe was there! Why don't you ask your precious boyfriend the story?" Topper asked.

"I don't wanna start an argument with Rafe. We're finally starting to become...decent again. I don't wanna fuck it up. How are you and Sarah?" Lucy asked as Topper sighed.

"I don't even know with that girl anymore." Topper shook his head. "So much is happening. My boat got sunk, my moms pissed, my dad's in fucking Paris, Sarah is mad at me, Midsummers is in like three days, and the Outerbanks movie is today. It's just all too much." Topper stressed.

"I'm sorry. If it makes you feel better, I understand. Me and Rafe have been arguing all summer and my parents are divorced now. It's not the perfect summer we all had pictured. But hey, there's still one more month left" Lucy said with a grin as Topper chuckled.

"One more month to fix it all" Topper said with a small smile. "Hey, I have a question"

"Shoot away"

"How do you and Rafe still stay together despite how toxic you two are for each other?" Topper asked. Topper was struggling. He felt as if he was losing Sarah, and he couldn't bare that either. He wasn't gonna be known as the boy who got dumped by the Kook Princess. It was humiliating. Her first boyfriend was still getting bullied. And he actually saw a future with Sarah. Yes, they were just teenagers with their entire life ahead but Topper knew that he loved Sarah and only had eyes for her.
He loved her.
