"And now I'm running with my dress unbuttoned

Screaming 'But Daddy, I love him!'

**"But Daddy I Love Him" - Taylor Swift**

Charlie wasn't afraid of Mr. Perry, but he was afraid of what he could do to Margaret. If he hurt her in any way, he would never forgive himself. He asked Mr. Perry how he had found his daughter. Mr. Perry refused to explain but implied that he had his sources.

"Five years ago, you ruined my daughter's life. You made her believe in insignificant feelings and defiled her body with your imprudent and insolent hands."

"Five years ago, you killed your son. I don't see how that's any better."

Mr. Perry threw his cigarette and tried to punch Charlie, but Charlie managed to dodge. The two men looked at each other with such intense hatred that even the air seemed to tense at their contact.

"Don't bring Neil into this," Mr. Perry said, his voice trembling with fury.

"Margaret suffered because of you. You're the only one who ruined her life."

"Are you sure about that, Mr. Dalton? Didn't you abandon her?"

"Fate separated us. It's not the same."

"And now you're back with her. I imagine you've already thrown yourself at her like a rabid animal, without any ethics or values."

Charlie sighed and refused to respond to these accusations. He didn't even know what he was doing here anymore.

"Dalton, let's be very clear. I don't want to see you near my daughter."

"It's not your choice."

"Listen to me carefully. You will never touch her again, you will never marry her, she will never bear your children, and your pathetic existence will forever be kept away from hers. Am I clear?"

"No, sir. I will marry your daughter, I swear it."

And he walked away. He went back into the party hall and searched for Margaret. He saw her and found her more beautiful than ever. He walked towards her, and as soon as he was close enough, he kissed her. She didn't understand why he was doing this but accepted the kiss with joy. Everyone was watching them, their friends were ecstatic. They quickly gathered around and cheered loudly. Todd hugged Margaret, and Knox expressed his joy with excitement while the young woman couldn't stop laughing. Charlie pulled her close and whispered in her ear:

"Your father is here."

Margaret's expression changed immediately, she saw him but she wasn't ready to face him. She took Charlie aside and asked him in confusion:

"What is he doing here?"

"He's looking for you, I guess. He talked to me."

"Did you hit him?"

"No..."

"Perfect, so I can do it myself!"

He tried to calm her down, placing his hands on her arms and trying to keep her steady. He didn't want her father to take advantage of her vulnerability.

"He refuses to see me in your life," Charlie explained.

"He can go to hell then."

"Mags, I'm serious, he hates me..."

"I'll just talk to him one last time."

She walked away and went outside to find her father. He was waiting, and when she saw him, her stomach tightened, and she felt sick, but she bravely walked towards him.

"Father..."

"Margaret."

They stared at each other for a moment. Her father tried to take a step towards her, but she stepped back.

"Come home...your place is not here."

"My place has always been here."

"With these degenerates?"

"You don't even know them..."

"It's foolish."

"It's my life, and I'll do what I want with it."

She sighed; her father would never listen to her.

"And you're still with that Dalton boy. He's not good for you."

"I love him."

"You don't know what love is."

"I know more than you."

She tried to leave, but her father stopped her with one last question.

"Are you going to marry this man?"

She turned and thought for a few seconds, hesitating.

"No, I doubt it."

That night, she drove back with Charlie. He asked her how the conversation with her father had gone.

"Well, I think we won't see each other again."

"Perfect. I think that guy hates me."

"He asked me if I was going to marry you."

There was silence, then Charlie asked hesitantly:

"And what did you tell him?"

"No, of course."

"Of course."

She thought she detected resentment in his response, but she told herself it was only in her head. They arrived home and wasted no time. They went up to Charlie's room and made love tenderly.

Margaret quickly fell asleep. Charlie, meanwhile, was deep in thought. He had made a vow to Mr. Perry; he had sworn to marry this woman. It was madness, and she didn't seem to think it was possible. But he wanted to marry her, he couldn't imagine his life without her, and it drove him crazy. He watched her sleep for a long time and became convinced that he would marry this girl.

From the first kiss, under the fireworks, he had known it. He would marry Margaret Perry. She had kissed him that night at Welton, he had embraced her in the snow, they had made love in the young girl's room, and then they had parted. She had confessed her love for him. Then they had seen each other again, they had given up on loving each other, but at no point had he been able to ignore the feeling between them—their moments together, their late-night conversations, their arguments, their midnight swims, their looks, their kisses—all of it had to mean something.

It was as if the universe was pushing them together, and Charlie knew he never wanted to be apart from her. He finally fell asleep with the girl of his dreams in his arms.

In the morning, he woke up, and she was still there. He wanted her to always be there, and he was going to do everything to make that wish come true. He gently brushed a lock of hair from her face and kissed her forehead, thinking about how he could convince her that their love was meant to last forever. As Margaret began to stir, he whispered, "Good morning, beautiful," and she smiled up at him, her eyes full of warmth and trust.

"Good morning," she replied softly. "Did you sleep well?"

"Better than ever," he said, pulling her closer. "Margaret, I've been thinking..."

"About what?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

"About us. About our future together."

She looked at him,  he hesitated but finally joke :

" And I don't know how you managed to get me to like you again but girl...you're amazing !"

She laughed with a frown, knowing he problably didn't want to say that.
