"I don't wanna close my eyes
I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing"
**"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" - Aerosmith**
Margaret was pacing in her room. Tomorrow was Meeks' wedding day, and while that in itself wasn't worrisome, she couldn't stop thinking about Charlie. He had an almost illegal effect on her, but she loved it. The way he had suddenly kissed her, the feeling of his hands on her, everything in that brief moment had been perfect. Margaret hated to admit it, but she wanted more, much more. Obviously, their shared past with Charlie had always held her back, but she didn't want to restrain herself any longer. They both wanted it, so why stop?
She wanted to go join him, but she thought it was too direct; she could try the earring excuse again. Margaret walked quickly to the door, reached out to grab the handle, but suddenly it turned, and the door opened. It was Charlie.
Margaret looked at him with perplexity, and he did the same, not expecting to see her so close. He mumbled a few words and held out his hand, explaining that he had come to return her earrings. She thanked him and took them.
Charlie watched her walk away towards her dresser, feeling his gaze behind her sent shivers down her spine.
"Charlie, about earlier..."
"Do you regret it?"
"No, absolutely not."
"I regret it."
"What do you mean?"
"I regret that it ended."
She laughed and moved closer to him before kissing him tenderly. He smiled against her lips and gently pushed her against the wall. They felt like teenagers again, all their problems seemed to disappear. Their night was quite eventful; they hardly slept, staying close to each other, their bodies intertwined. Even when they weren't doing anything, Charlie played with Margaret's hair while she nestled into the crook of his neck.
The moment of the wedding arrived. Charlie had just gotten ready, and Margaret came to see him one last time in his room, not forgetting to place a kiss on his cheek.
"Ready to see our little Meeks leave the nest?"
"Absolutely not."
"Are you going to cry?"
"Not that much!"
He pressed his lips against hers while she tried to straighten his tie as best she could. She felt happy, and nothing could ruin her happiness. Suddenly, Charlie wanted more than just a few kisses and started sliding his hands down Margaret's back.
"Aren't you dressed for the wedding yet?"
"No, I need to do that."
"Let me help you."
"Seriously?"
"I have five years to catch up on, my dear, I'd rather start right away."
She blushed at his words and accepted his offer. Once ready, they took the car with their friends, and Margaret got lost in her thoughts. She wondered what was going on in Charlie's head, if their new relationship was something serious or not, if they should talk about it with their friends or not, and if loving someone like him was as easy as it seemed.
Pitt and Meeks got out of the car and headed towards the church to present themselves to the priest. Todd, Charlie, and Margaret hurried to sit on the benches in silence. Meeks' entire family looked at them with consternation, wondering who these three were.
The ceremony began, everyone stood up, and the bride entered. She was beautiful, looking gentle and calm. Margaret looked at Meeks, and she had never seen her friend so happy. The priest spoke for a long time before Meeks was allowed to kiss his wife. All their friends stood up and shouted "Carpe Diem" out loud.
Then it was party time. Meeks opened the dance with his sweetheart. Knox, meanwhile, was with the waitress he had fallen in love with, Cassandra. Todd and Pitt met some young girls from Meeks' family and danced with them too. Finally, it was Charlie's turn to ask Margaret to dance with him. She couldn't refuse, and they enthusiastically took to the dance floor. A rock song got everyone moving, and the good mood spread. Margaret met Cassandra and quickly got along well with her. Suddenly, everyone held hands and danced in a circle just before Todd, Knox, and Charlie went to get a drink.
"I've never seen Meeks so happy," Charlie said.
"Yeah, I can't wait for the next wedding," Todd added.
"I'd bet on the next one to get married," Knox joked.
It was at that moment that Cassandra threw her bridal bouquet. She had forgotten to do it earlier, and the three boys watched it land in Margaret's hands. Todd and Knox looked at Charlie and immediately bet on him.
"There are signs that don't lie, Dalton," Todd explained.
"Don't mess with me, we just..."
Charlie stopped in the middle of his sentence, leaving Todd and Knox hanging.
"What does that mean?! You two are back together?!" Knox exclaimed.
"Mr. Perry," Charlie said.
"So I guess it's Miss Perry for Margaret, but..." Todd started.
"No, Mr. Perry is really here," Charlie interrupted.
They turned and indeed saw Mr. Perry at the end of the hall. He gestured for Charlie to come over. Charlie finished his drink and walked towards the man who had once destroyed their lives. They went outside and both lit a cigarette.
"Mr. Dalton, let's be honest, I've never really liked you."
"And I hate you immensely, sir."
"Alright, then we can talk man to man now."
"More like man to monster."
Margaret watched from the doorway, her heart pounding. She knew this confrontation was inevitable, but it still filled her with dread. She hoped Charlie could handle himself, knowing how volatile her father could be. Inside, the festivities continued, oblivious to the tension outside.
