Deathbringer lifted his head. Beside him, Glory was still asleep. It was Thursday, though the family had been excused from work due to their losses.
Deathbringer stepped out of his bed to go wake up his son. He could tell Blueberry was upset about his Firefly going missing, though he didn't show or admit it.
Deathbringer opened the door. There was a note laying on Blueberry's bed- but no Blueberry. Deathbringer stepped forwards and lifted the note.
Going to find missing sister in the kindergarten. Don't come looking for me. Also think Toucan could be alive. Don't know how long I could be gone for, don't panic.
-Blueberry
Deathbringer gasped. He read the note over a few times to make sure he had read it right. Anxiety flooded through him.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck..."
They'd lost another dragonet. How could this be possible? First Toucan, then Firefly... now Blueberry. If his son was going to search through the kindergarten, then there was a low chance he would get out alive.
Deathbringer buried his race in his talons for a few moments before standing and going back to where Glory had woken up.
"Morning." She spoke. Her expression shifted as she saw Deathbringer's anxious expression.
"What is it?" She spoke. Deathbringer sighed and handed her the note.
"We lost another one."
Glory's breath caught in her throat. She leaned against Deathbringer silently. Deathbringer wrapped his wings around her.
"What are we going to do?"
Deathbringer was taken by surprise as Glory spoke after a few minutes.
"We know that Blueberry could still be alive- but the monsters down there, they could kill him in an instant." Glory continued. "We can't stand here and do nothing. Especially with Toucan down there..."
Deathbringer remembered Toucan. She had promised to protect their daughter and ended up chucking her down a hole. He didn't know how someone with the same genome as their kind daughter could end up like that.
Deathbringer sighed, stepping away from Glory. "Let's hope Toucan has had a change of heart." He said, turning his neck to look out the window.
"I'm going after him."
~ Blueberry's POV ~
Blueberry closed the door behind him. The sun was beginning to rise, which meant his parents would wake up soon. He didn't have long to get to the lower levels before they found out.
He looked around the room. It brought back so many memories. The cafeteria, where he, Toucan and their other friends had had a food fight.
Ahead of him was the door that led down a hallway to the playground, Principal's office and classroom. He didn't want to have to enter the playground again, for that was where the ball pit was. Where Toucan had died.
