Isla
It's time to say goodbye to Hawaii.
I have been here for almost two weeks, but even then, it feels like we have only been here for a few days. Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, we had to get our suitcases and head back home.
Julian checks the time on my phone that he still carries, and as his eyes flicker up to my own, they widen. "What?" I ask him, nervous at the expression he wears so evident on his face.
His face simmers down to its natural state when he says, "Um, don't stress, but—"
"Julian!" I shriek, already stressed, because why would he lead with that? It was making me more anxious than he was going for.
Julian shakes his head, grabbing a hold of my hand that was close to slapping him on the arm, and says, "So, we may only have close to an hour before our flight boards."
"Shut up," I say, fear creeping into my face because there was no way I was going to miss a flight again. No, not again. Julian bites his cheek and then tugs on my hand as he says, "Let's go."
With hands in each other, the both of us run as quick as we can. Julian drags me as he runs faster, and I try my hardest to keep up, but with heels, it's not the easiest task. As we run across the street and to the driveway of the house, Julian pulls his hand away. Then he rummages through his pocket and pulls out the key. My hairline beats with sweat, and when he struggles to get the door open, I sigh, pushing past him.
"Give me the keys," I say to him with a shake of my head, eagerly reaching for them. He gives me a look of helplessness as he throws the keys into my hand, and I take it with an exhale. As I try to get it through the lock, it doesn't work. My eyebrows pull together as I try again, and then I notice that they look different from the one that was given to me.
"Julian," I say, a little stressed and disappointed at the same time. "These are not the right keys."
"Shit," Julian curses, and I throw the keys back to him, which unfortunately fall, and he has to get them off the floor. I exhale another breath as I look down and pick up my purse from my shoulder. As I look for the set of keys I have, I'm worried that we are going to miss our flight. We have to get an Uber to the airport as well, and I cannot even find the damn keys.
"Fuck," I curse, blowing out an impatient breath. Julian moves beside me, where he says, "Okay, wait, I got it."
"The right ones this time?" I ask him, short-tempered, and he ignores me as he pushes past and opens the door. Once the door opens, I fly past him and into the house. I grab my suitcase and then remember how I did my makeup this morning and didn't pack my stuff.
"Oh no!" I shout out loud, and Julian looks over at me. He was just heading out the door, and I ran out of the room and all the way into my room.
"Where are you going, Isla?" I hear his shouting from behind me, but I ignore him and my own stress. Once I get into my room, I head into the bathroom, where, thankfully, I didn't have too much makeup out of its bag. I put those back and zip up the bag before running back into the bedroom. In the bedroom, I make sure I don't leave anything else, grabbing my charger and then checking the bed. I hadn't made my bed this morning, and as I looked up, Julian hadn't either.
I stall in my spot for a second, taking in the room one last time. I had a window beside my bed, and I was so excited to look out the first morning here. I look out the window one last time before it hits me again, saying that we are late and I'm stalling. I give the room a last wave and then run out of the room and back to the living room.
