Hanni's POV:
Three years later....
"College has been a pain in the ass, I can't wait for it to be done," Minji groaned from the other line.
"Babe, you've been saying that since it started," I laughed as I settled down on my dorm room bed. I was alone in the room today; my roommate was God knows where, which meant I could talk to Minji for as long as I wanted without Yunjin whining at the side.
"I know, I just wish we got into the same one. Long distance is hard," Minji said with a defeated sigh, and she was definitely right. After we graduated, we immediately started to apply for colleges, and unfortunately, we didn't get accepted into the same one. But I was lucky enough to have Danielle and Haerin at the same college as me. We rarely saw each other, but our friendship remained the same. Minji was basically all alone in California.
My relationship with Minji, on the other hand, only grew stronger. Since Minji was in California and I was in Texas, we could only see each other during holidays. But that did not stop us from FaceTiming each other every single night and updating each other on our lives. It sucks not to be with the love of my life all the time, but we didn't give up and made it work.
"Hey, don't sulk. It's our last year, and then we'll be back together," I said, reminding Minji.
Minji hummed in response. "My flight's tomorrow. I need to start packing," She said.
She was going back to Dallas to her mom and her somewhat step-dad for her birthday. Minji's mother started seeing someone soon after Minji left for college. I've seen him a couple of times, and he seems like a nice person, and Minji seems to agree. They're not married or anything because Minji's mom is still scared of commitment.
"Yeah, I really wish I could come to your birthday, but exams," I said with a sigh.
"It's okay, love. You can just call me. I know you're busy," Minji said. The nickname she never stopped calling me didn't fail to leave a warm feeling in my stomach.
"Yeah, I need to start studying too. Talk to you later. I love you," I said.
"I love you too," Minji said before we ended the call.
I looked up to see Yunjin standing by my bed with her arms folded over her chest and an annoying grin on her face. I didn't even know she had come back.
"Done lying to your little lover?" she said.
"I wasn't lying. It's called a surprise, ever heard of that?" I rolled my eyes as I got up from the bed and started tossing the last few clothes in my suitcase.
"No, but if I was Minji, I would have totally found out you were coming over," Yunjin said.
"I wasn't being obvious," I said as I looked back at Yunjin, actually scared if what I said was too obvious.
"I really wish I could come to your birthday but exams," Yunjin mocked me in a voice that sounded nothing like mine, causing me to roll my eyes again. I might get a headache if I keep doing that.
"Who the fuck has exams during spring break, Hanni? We're in college, no one takes it seriously," Yunjin said with a laugh. I squinted my eyes at her and threw one of the pillows in her direction, which she managed to catch.
"I managed to convince her, okay? That's what matters. Plus, it's been like forever since I've seen my girlfriend, and there's no better way to see her than surprising her on her birthday," I said with a smile, imagining how happy Minji would be.
