Stan yawned, covering his mouth with his right hand to be polite, even though Kyle Broflovski was the only one around. With his left hand, he grabbed his math book, closed his locker, and slammed the lock shut. "Dude, I'm still so fucking sleepy," he groaned to his buddy. He turned around and leaned against his locker, looking utterly drained. "Should i just skip class? I really want to take a nap in the nurse's office."

Kyle hadn't uttered a word since they got there. With his back to Stan, he was completely absorbed in his own world. Stan had to pat his shoulder to get his attention. "Oh, yeah, go ahead. I'll cover for you." That was all the response Stan got because Kyle was still focused on something in front of him. Stan became curious about what had Kyle frozen in place, so he got up from his leaning position and faced the same direction as Kyle. Not too far but not too close from where they were standing side by side, Stan saw Y/n at her own locker.

Stan sighed. "You really like her, don't you?"

"Uh... yeah..."

Stan's right eyebrow shot up at Kyle's vague response. His face reflected confusion at Kyle's reaction.

"It's just..." Kyle, realizing Stan's bewilderment, quickly explained what had him lost in thought. "She seems really down today."

Kyle's observations prompted Stan to also check out Y/n's condition, who appeared to be looking sad based on his expression. However, when Stan looked with his own eyes, he didn't see anything different except for her hair, which was down and untied today. Stan felt like it was pointless squinting his eyes to focus fully.

"I don't see anything different about her," Stan said nonchalantly. Kyle turned to him quickly, his eyes wide with surprise, making Stan flustered. "Yeah, yeah, her hair is different. But that's all."

Kyle turned his gaze back to Y/n, who was still busy at her locker. He sighed as he continued his conversation with his buddy. "Well, you never really pay attention to her either," he replied.

"Then just go over there and talk to her," Stan suggested. "Ask her what's wrong today," he continued, giving Kyle a gentle nudge on the shoulder.

Kyle watched Stan walk away from him towards where Y/n was standing. Kyle panicked, afraid that Stan would actually ask her how she was doing. It wasn't that Kyle was embarrassed or anything if Stan asked Y/n on his behalf, but rather that he was afraid Stan would steal his thunder and make Y/n think that Stan was being attentive to her. So, when his friend was a good distance away from him, Kyle immediately chased after him, almost running. But it turned out that Stan simply walked past the girl without taking a moment to greet her. Kyle then saw his friend glance back to give him a sharp look before continuing to walk until he reached the entrance to the math classroom. He turned right and entered the classroom first.

Left alone by Stan, Kyle didn't waste any time in approaching Y/n. He swallowed hard and walked slowly. Before he could even call her name, Y/n glanced in his direction first as she finished taking her books from her locker and was about to head to the classroom that was not far from her.

Y/n quickly flashed him a smile. "Hi, Kyle!"

"Are you okay, Y/n?" Kyle asked abruptly, ignoring Y/n's friendly greeting.

Y/n was taken aback by his direct question. She then let out a low, awkward laugh. "I'm fine. Why are you asking?"

"You looked really sad from a distance."

"Really? No way! You're making it up."

Kyle's green eyes narrowed. His lips tightened further. He actually didn't want to ask this, but it seemed there was no other way.
