After what felt like ages later, a doctor finally came out of the room with a sad smile on his face.

Helena and the boys rushed over to him, asking about Daryian's condition while I stayed by the chairs, intently listening on their conversation.

"He's stable and out of danger now. Thankfully the injury to his head wasn't severe. But he's got a broken ankle which might take time to heal. He'd be awake in a few hours then you can meet him."

Everyone released a huge breath of relief and I felt my chest at ease, finally being able to breathe properly.

Now that we were all assured about Daryian's recovery, Helena once again turned to me, demanding an explanation.

I knew I had to come clean now, no more avoiding the inevitable.

So, as we waited for Daryian to gain consciousness, I told them everything that happened, including my car hitting Daryian—who was lying on the middle of the road at night.

"I'm s-so sorry." I held her hands, hoping she'd forgive me for hurting Daryian in the first place.

She didn't respond but didn't push me away either, so I felt a tiny bit of hope bloom inside me. I looked at Nate and James as well and they just nodded at me.

A couple hours later, the doctor came to inform us that Daryian was awake and we could meet him now. But one at a time.

I looked at Helena with pleading eyes, silently begging for her to let me see him first. She blinked in assurance and patted my hands.

I thanked her and rushed to the VIP room Daryian was shifted post surgery.

Entering the room, the first thing I heard was the heart monitor beeping then my eyes landed on the lying figure on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

Plaster on his ankle and bandage around his head, wires connected to his nose and hand, I swallowed.

"Hey." I softly called to have his attention on me.

He turned his gaze at me with an unreadable expression on his face. I felt like I couldn't read him no more.

"Why are you here?"

His voice sounded cold and distant, a bit raspy due to his unwell health. I took small, hesitant steps towards the bed, willing myself to not break down witnessing his condition.

"I- baby, please." I croaked, sitting next to his bed and clasping his slightly colder hand in mine. "I'm so, so sorry, Daryian. I- I shouldn't have let you go. Please, forgive me."

He scoffed, looking back at the ceiling, his hand stiff under my touch.

"Now that I almost faced death, you came to tell me you're sorry? Funny. But I don't need your pity." He spat.

Shaking my head, I cupped his face, tilting it so I could show him my sincerity through my eyes.

"No, Daryian! I didn't come here because you're hurt. I was already coming to you, to ask for your forgiveness and my ca-car hit you. Y-you were on- the road."

I felt ashamed. He sniffed and still refused to meet my eyes. But I could see the quiver of his lips.

"I-I lost everything and everyone." His voice cracked as a single tear slipped down the side of his face.

I thumbed over the soft skin, wiping away the tears. Leaning down, I pressed kisses over his eyes.

"No, baby. Nothing's lost. Helena, Nate, James, Maria, they're all out there, waiting for you. We were all so worried. We love you, baby. So very much."
