It was weekend, Jazz was outside at a garden, while talking to Noel. It was late morning, they had the whole day ahead. Noel told Jazz what happened with Derek, sad. “I see. So Derek is a mage.” Jazz figured out, Noel nodded. “I don't know what happened, but he was irritated, I could see that from his face.” Noel said. Jazz shrugged, as if to say "I don't know". “We should try to-” Noel got cut off by Mary's cheerful voice, “Hiii!”' she said while running toward them, stopping with a smile on her face. Jazz pet her head, “Hey there.” he said, “Mary! Hi!” Noel exclaimed. Mary immediately noticed the concerned looks Jazz and Noel had. Her smile started to fade, replaced by a worried expression. “Did something happen?” she asked, without the happy tone. Noel explained Mary everything. “Let's go look for Derek, then.” she proposed, “He'll be surely at the station.” Jazz said, so they went there. For their surprise, Derek was at the train station, waiting for the train for Beta. “Derek!” Mary called out. Derek turned around toward her, with his classic bored expression, but he was still a bit irritated, from the eyes they could see it. “Listen, I'm sorry what I said yesterday.” Noel apologized while approaching Derek, “You should've kept your mouth shut.” he said, making Noel slightly offended, “I'm trying to apologize, so you can at least listen!” he retorted, with annoyed tone. Jazz stepped in between the two, “Okay, calm down, we don't want to start a fight here.” he said. Derek remained silent, giving a scoff. “Fine, I'll accept your miserable apology.” he said. Noel smiled, “It's nothing, idiot” Derek said. “So.. you're going back to Beta?” Mary asked, “What makes you think so?” Derek asked sarcastically, then responded: “Of course I'm going back to Beta.”. Noel was a little confused, and decided to phrase his question. “Do you have to do something there?” he asked, Derek rolled his eyes. “Yes, I have unfinished business to do.” he said. Jazz then had an idea, “Regarding to the all-Austin trip, can we come?” he asked, Derek looked at him, slightly surprised, “I guess, yes?” he said, with a hint of uncertainity. The train arrived, and they all went in, going to sit on their seats. Derek was next to Noel, Mary besides Jazz. The trip was a few hours long, since the trains that come from Beta are the fastest in all the island. The four were talking to each other meanwhile, of diverse topics. How they are, how's life at home and other, then Jazz called out Derek.
“Hey.”
“Jazz, what is it?”
“About magic, do you know anything else?” he asked. This question put Derek silent for a moment, but then he replied: “There are different types of magic if we talk about magic.” he paused, “But I can't talk about it in here.” he explained. Noel and Mary gave each other a confused look. “And by the way, why do you wanna know? It's none of your business.” Derek said, “Out of curiousity.” Jazz. After a couple of hours they finally arrived at Beta, they hopped off the train. The city had enormous and very tall buildings made of metal and strong black glass, with lot of shops and homes, and lot of diverse streets. “Wow...” Noel said surprised, like everyone else. “Don't stand there and move.” Derek said and started to walk forward, but behind Mary (who was the most behind) a blue light was getting intense, Jazz noticed and shouted: “MOVE AWAY!”, everyone else movee out of the way, a sphere with an ice trail flew past them, hitting a building that explodes afterwards. The impact made small pieces of glass fly and fall at very high speed. Jazz stepped in front of Mary to protect her. Derek did a weird motion with his hand, it looked like a one turning into a four, the pointed the hand at the three of them, creating a magic circle that shielded them, while Derek went under a roof. The shards of glass ended and the circle disappeared. “Again?!” Noel said, frustrated, Derek got out of his hiding place, “Another one?” he asked. Noel saw behind Derek a weird green gas that was going toward him. “WATCH OUT!” Noel shouted. Derek rolled to the side to avoid the attack, standing up and looking at the three people with the hood. “You go, I'll give you time.” Derek told them, “And you?” Mary asked, “I'll be fine.” he replied, “Now go.” he repeated. The three ran off, while Derek was fighting the three people. He was about to get hit by a fireball but a wall of ice protected him, making an explosion occur because of the impact. Without thinking much of it, he divded the wall in many shards and threw those at the guys and ran off. The others were in an alleyway, Derek reached them. “Derek!” Mary exclaimed, happy he was okay. “It's always them.” Derek said, the others were worried, since those people didn't come for a long time, “Oh well, what do we do?” Jazz asked, “I don't know. You explore, I'll be right back.” Derek told them, before leaving Noel, Mary and Jazz alone. Noel watched Derek walk away, “At this point, let's explore the city.” he said, Mary nodded, “Sure!” she said. The three started to explore Beta. They saw various marketplaces and supermarkets, with also houses and other buildings (of work or others like hotels). “So here is where Derek lives, eh?” Noel said, “It seems like it.” Jazz replied. Mary had impressed eyes while darting them around, “Wow, it would be wonderful to live in here.” she said, “You think?” Jazz asked, “Mhm!” she replied. Jazz smiled, seeing Mary so happy made him content, Riko did a good job making Jazz take care of her while he's gone. They continued to explore Beta for a few minutes, until they stumbled across a weird shop, it was pretty small and there were some curtains to enter. There was also a sign that read “Magic and Books" . The three looked at each other, “Should we enter?” Noel asked, “Nah, we're good for now.” Jazz replied, “Fine.” Noel said, and they returned to explore. But the second their turned around they could see a black figure, disappearing among the crowd of people. They didn't give it too much of importance and continued to do their thing. Derek saw them and walked over. “Did you see that figure?” he asked, “Oh, yes.” Noel replied, “Should we do something about it?” Mary asked, “I don't know.” Jazz replied. “Right, they tried to hurt us.” Noel added, “We'll see what we can do, I gotta go.” Derek said, “I'll go too.” Mary said, and looked at Jazz, “Can you come with me?” she asked, he nodded. They all left, leaving Noel alone, and just when he was he heard a voice, it was of a boy, also very playful. “Well, well.” it said. Noel turned around, but a feeling of exhaustion washed over him when he did so, “What... the?...” Noel said while trying to stay awake. The sensation became stronger, Noel was standing on his feet but fell on a knee, trying with everything he had in him to look at the person in front of him, but his vision was blurry. “Go to sleep, everything will be okay.” the voice said, after that, Noel lost his senses, falling on the ground. He woke up a moment after, the first thing he saw was Derek. Noel was sat on the floor, leaned up against the wall behind him, around him a room. The walls were of a light blue, there was a bed with a desk with on a computer, with a blue bag beside it, at the side of the bed there was a window, more further a wardrobe. “Welcome back.” Derek said.
