He loved how his wife looked, all undone and not her usual neat and perfect self. But that was for his eyes alone. She'd become more confident in the bedroom and in herself - preferring to be on top of him rather than under. He wasn't complaining, because seeing her pleasured was a glorious sight in itself.
"Come back to bed". He beckoned her over as he watched her cross the room one morning, her hair a mess and body covered by a silk nightgown that she had brought for more intimate occasions. It nipped in at all the right places and showed off her breasts in the most perfect way.
"We need to get up at some point". She smirked.
"I already am - and I wanna try one more time at putting an heir into you for today". He quickly grabbed her and pulled her down onto him again, kissing her deeply. Jocelyn sank down onto him as he sat up, wrapping his arms around her to keep her close while she moved on him, eventually crying out as she came around him, Steve shooting into her soon after. She went to lift herself from him but he stopped her. "Stay on for just a little longer".
"You are an animal, husband". She stole another kiss and eventually lifted herself from him, feeling the emptiness after he'd kept her full for the last few hours.
He lay back and admired her, as she got up to head behind the dressing screen. "Your mother is talking about the garden party". She now said.
"Ah yes, the Dowager Viscountess' annual garden party - where if you don't get an invite, you're clearly not respected in society". He sighed.
"Your mother is pretty much the person who calls the shots though. Everyone respects her..."
"And to be honest? I'd rather stare at fine china all day than be part of it".
Jocelyn now came out from behind the screen, newly dressed. "I fear people will still talk about me, or even worse will not attend because of me, even now that we've been married a few months, they may still have the same opinions".
He sat up and pulled her to perch on the edge of the bed next to him. "They'll attend, and if they talk? They'll be asked to leave".
"Can't we just quit society altogether? Live a quiet life?"
"We are and we will. We get to pick and choose the invitations we accept. It could be one ball a year, could be three? But it's whatever you want sweetheart". He kissed her tenderly. "Just remember, you're the Viscountess Rogers - you should show them just how wrong they are about us".
The only way she could really do that was by giving him an heir. That would shut everyone up. Even now after trying for some time she had been hopeful for some news to share - but there was nothing so far. Steve never seemed disappointed but Joss still wanted to at least succeed in that area. He'd been enjoying just having time to the two of them, his mother having moved into a residence nearby. Jocelyn would visit her for tea most mornings. If anything she had tried to convince the Dowager to continue living with them, however her mother in law had stood firm in saying that they needed their space, especially if children came along.
"I should head to your mother's - she was asking for help with her invitations and the menus".
"I'll come too, I haven't got anything urgent I need to see to, we can go together". He got up and went to get dressed.
Jocelyn sat down and began to read whilst waiting for him to get ready. He soon emerged and she got up, quickly redoing his cravat. "There, much better". She smiled up at him.
He took her hands in his and kissed her knuckles. "What would I do without you?"
"I'm sure that you would survive, you did before".
"That was before, this is now. Now, all of that time in bed has worked up an appetite, breakfast, and then we go to my mother's".
"Whatever you say, husband".

"Have you heard from your cousin?" Sarah asked as they took tea in the garden a few hours later.
"Depending on how long it takes to travel, not for a couple of months. The last I heard Micheal was bound for Paris, he and Hattie had been in Italy for a few weeks. As far as I'm aware, my aunt and uncle are still unaware of the marriage".
Sarah sipped her tea. "What will they do?"
"The worst that they could do is not give him his inheritance...I fear they will disown him".
"He shall not be disowned, because aside from yourself. I won't see it happen". Sarah smiled as Steve nodded in agreement.
"He's a good friend, and cares about you. If it comes to that then you don't have to worry. I'll help him". Steve assured his wife.
Jocelyn smiled. "He may choose not to accept it"
"I'm sure that I can find the way to sway your aunt and uncle. Has he said when he's coming home?"
"No. Not yet. I thought he'd be back for Peggy's wedding but he wasn't". Of course she had not attended, nor had she expected an invite. Jocelyn knew that her cousin had ended up marrying Lord Sousa though. Hopefully she could finally be happy somewhat.
Sarah sighed. "I was thinking about leaving your aunt and uncle off the guest list, as well as your cousin..."
"Don't". Jocelyn shook her head. "Please, still send them an invitation. I bear no ill will towards them. It is their choice if they wish to attend".
"You would be happy for your cousin to attend?"
Jocelyn nodded at those. "She has a new husband, and I've met him a couple of times. He's very agreeable. It would be unkind to not invite him simply because he married Peggy".
Sarah smiled at her kindly. "You are always thinking of everyone but yourself Jocelyn".
"I am thinking about myself. It could potentially heal the divide between me and my family. If it does not then that is their grudge to bear, not mine".
"Ok". Sarah nodded and wrote down the final names on the list. "I shall send an invitation to them this week".
