The house was silent as Jocelyn walked in, Steve in tow. He left her at the study door and she knocked, then walking in and finding her Uncle Harrison sat at his desk.
"Jocelyn? I was not expecting you?" His eyes went to her stomach. "I see that you're well..."
She stood there and looked at him, "yes, very. But I didn't come here to talk about me. I came to talk about Micheal".
Harrison's hand gripped tightly around the glass of wine that he was holding. "What about him?"
"Would you really cut him off?"
"He went against my orders and married below his class, without my approval". He replied. "And a servant none the less".
Jocelyn clasped her hands in front of her. "You forget that my mother was also a servant - and yet I have made a suitable marriage regardless of her class".
"And yet you wouldn't have if you had not been sent to London. You'd have instead made a match with a man of very little fortune".
"But I did not - so it only proves that class means nothing". She told him and then looked at the books that adorned the bookcases. "I've always thought you a fair man, Uncle. Fairer in judgement than Aunt anyway. I know that Micheal was wrong to not tell you sooner, but surely you have felt love? Love so great that you care about nothing and no one else?"
Harrison sighed. "The night I met your Aunt..."
Jocelyn looked to him. "And you would deny him of that same feeling? The same happiness? Please, I know you are not cold, but with a family like ours and in our position in society? Any child he may have would be brought up and accomplished to the highest of standards. I was...perhaps not as much as Peggy but I am talented in areas that she is not".
He was thinking, before his eyes went to her stomach again. "Does your husband hope for a boy?"
She shook her head. "He hopes for a healthy child, regardless of their sex. We are thankful to be expecting at all. It had not been easy, especially with the pressure to be as perfect as others. If we have a son then that will be an added bonus".
Downing his wine, Harrison nodded slowly. "Ok".
"Ok?"
"I will not cut Micheal off"
"You are serious?" She smiled.
"I am. If he is happy, then I suppose I cannot be angry at him for that".
She walked over to him and hugged him. "Thank you Uncle".
He let go of her after a short time. "Go on, get yourself home, it'll do you no good to be on your feet this late". Now seeing her out and then seeing Steve. "Lord Rogers. It's good to see you again".
Steve nodded. "Likewise Lord Carter", then looked at his wife. "Everything ok?"
"Yes, let's go home".

Steve rested his head on Jocelyn's stomach, feeling the small and soft thumps against his ear as he closed his eyes and counted every last one. Placing a kiss to her stomach in return, he shifted to lie next to her. "You still are certain it's a girl?"
Jocelyn nodded. "I just have a feeling, that's all".
"Hmmm". Is all he replied and pulled her close, instead placing his hand on her stomach protectively. "Let your mother rest, she is tired. You can wriggle around all you like in the morning, and when you finally decide to that you want to come out". He told their child.
She laughed lightly, tiredness now setting in. "Is it wrong for me to be this impatient?"
"No, because I have been ever since you told me we were expecting". He couldn't wait to finally hold their child in his arms. Pregnancy suited his wife incredibly well, and he hoped that more children would follow after this. Even if they did not, at least they had been blessed with one.
Jocelyn stared into the darkness. "I am afraid though..."
"Sweetheart, try not to be. Everything will be ok". He assured her, but in truth he was nervous too. He'd had a long talk with his mother about everything. His doubts as to whether he would be a good father or not. His concerns about the birth, whether his wife would be ok as well as the baby. She had reassured him that everything would be in their favour, and that he needed to think positively.
"I know...I guess it's just the not knowing that is making me a little nervous".
He kept her in his arms. "I know...because I am too".
