"Wakey wakey!" A sharp sound cuts through my smooth slumber.

I tiredly and drowsily opened my eyes to see Oscar next to me, "Ready for your first day?" He asks me, trying to sound enthusiastic.

"Not really." I respond, "...but, I'm sure it's good to get back in the groove of things, I love a routine." I add on, trying to sprinkle in some positivity.

"Great, we've got an hour to get ready!" Oscar says running to get ready

"Are you always this enthusiastic about your education?" I ask him, laughing.

"Well, not really... but, I think it will be better today, I find it amazing that I finally have somebody to talk to!" He replies enthusiastically.

We get ready and walk downstairs, we see Oscar's mum sitting on the couch

"Wow, get you, 3 days and already at school! Well, have a good day, I'm sure you'll be touring around!" She says to me before turning to Oscar, "Any problems, make sure to ring me okay? Have a good day now!"

We both leave the house and begin walking towards the school. I must say, my nerves are catching up to me now. I'm running each scenario through my head. I guess it's best not to worry, but my mind feels like an infinite maze of possible scenarios.

"I bet not many people have seen a Shadownite before, you know?" Oscar laughs

"Yup. I'm hoping not to draw attention, however I doubt that's going to be the case!" I reply with a bit of worry in my voice, but still trying to sound happy.

"I will say, though!" I add, "I like that we just get to wear what we want! No more stupid blazers and ties!"

"Yeah, I think the education system here is more relaxed, the biggest issue is the people honestly, but don't stress it, everyone is always a bit awkward!" Oscar replies.

We walk along pavement to pavement, watching the silky sun seep through the sections of cloud, I don't think I'll ever grow tired of the sunlight, I guess it symbolises the hope of this world, it feels like a different planet, as opposed to the living hell just a few miles south from here.

Soon enough we arrive at the building, to be honest I still don't really know what's supposed to happen, I just follow Oscar's lead.

We stroll through the large double doors into a corridor exploding with sound, conversations, laughter, everything you'd expect in a cliché school. However, the corridor falls silent within an instant as we walk in, you could hear a pin drop in there. I feel a million eyes meet mine and I just lock my gaze with the wooden floor. Soon conversations start up again, within seconds it feels as if it's all gone back to normal.

"So, where are we going again?" I ask Oscar

"Mr Hazel's room, he's really nice, and he knows that you are coming, he is a History teacher so he knows all about the Shadow Side!" Oscar replies to me

We wind through a couple more corridors, stumble up some old steps and encounter a door that has "Mr D. Hazel, History" written on it. Oscar takes a step forward but I'm more apprehensive.

"It's alright, he's super nice, I promise you!" Oscar says trying to sound encouraging

With that, the door opens, and we take a step in, the room is dim, yet I can see movement, a figure moving around, hanging up lots of little signs everywhere from the roof. Oscar clears his throat and the figure turns to us.

"Oh! Sorry there Oscar, I was just setting up my lesson for later, would you mind just flicking the light on?" He asks him

Oscar obliges and the lights turn on, Mr Hazel's eyes meet mine
