CHAPTER 20

It was now Monday. You didn't want it to be Monday, but you didn't have control over it. So you just decide to deal with it and suck it up.

As you and Tsukasa walk into school, you notice Nene approaching you from the side, making you two stop in your tracks. "Hey, Tsukasa...? Can.. Can I talk with [Y/N] really quick? It's important."

"Eh? With [Y/N]?" Tsukasa repeated, seeming remarkably surprised. He didn't anticipate Nene wanting to speak with you at all. But it made you nervous. You just felt that deep within, it definitely had something to do with Rui.

Nene nodded. "Yes. I'll... m.. make it quick." She said in a tone that made it sound like she was trying not to be nervous, trying her best not to stammer and stutter over her words.

Tsukasa nodded, turning to you. "Okay! I'll see you in homeroom, okay [Y/N]?" He said, smiling brightly at you. You just nod, even though you felt like you were going to absolutely die from nervousness.

"Right, o-okay... See you." You wave off to Tsukasa, who was now running up the stairs to the third floor. You turn to Nene nervously, who seemed as nervous as you.

"[Y/N]," Nene murmured, "do you... know what I'm getting at? I- I mean, I'm bad at reading p-people but... you seem.. nervous."

You kept quiet for a moment, fidgeting with your hands. "Uh, are you going to talk about Rui..?" Nene nodded.

"Yeah, I.. I am." Nene admitted. "Look, I know you.. cannot exactly trust me perhaps. However I've been wanting to know... What do you.. think of him?.. I just wanted to... talk with you because Rui's been.. paranoid recently about you hating him. I wanted ease his nerves a little because I can just tell it's not the truth."

Nene continued her words, praying with her hair as she did: "I never really knew you personally before but ever since you met Rui, Tsukasa would always say you're so... closed-off. You never had any friends besides him and Saki growing up and you never wanted to go outside to do anything fun unless you were forced to. But now that you're around Rui, I can tell he's definitely had an effect on you."

"He's so strange, but he's also... just like that I guess." Nene added that part quietly.

"And," she went on, "I just know you don't hate him. It's obvious in all seriousness... But I wanted to hear it myself. I'm.. I'm r-r-right, aren't I- I..?"

You fell silent at Nene's words. The way she was right about every word made you a little embarrassed, and you couldn't help but blush slightly. You just sat there for a few moments, before soon speaking again. "Uhm, yes... Y-You're..— You're right." You admitted.

"I've never felt so.. happy around someone before," you admitted, "I don't hate him at all. He has strange quirks, yes.. but I kind of... like that about him. I don't really know what else to say other than that. I want to say more... but I cannot put it into words.. I think."

Nene looked at you, seeming unsurprised. "Well, I can.. kind of tell, don't worry."

You fell silent, trying to think of what to say. "It's just... ever since our first actual encounter, I could kind of tell something about him seemed.. er— what's the word...? He just seemed.. like someone I could trust or something... corny like that, I guess."

"The more we talked and hung out, it proved my point. I already figured he was a good person considering he was close with Tsukasa, but with our interactions together.. it shown that more. I eventually kind of realized that I was wanting to be his friend, and then I realized he actually considered me one. It.. made me happy, really." You explained more.

"I've never felt so happy around the person before, and I..."

You stop speaking, nervous to continue. Then you decide to go for it anyway: "I...— Don't tell him, but.. I.. developed feelings for him... As weird as that may sound."

Upon hearing your words, Nene didn't seem too surprised— Only slightly. "I.. kind of suspected that. I.. I came to y-you because I was just wanting to hear you say you didn't hate him and tell him myself. I won't tell him the whole.. part about you crushing on him though."

You sigh in relief. "Thank you... Thank you, Nene."

Nene nodded. "Yeah.. You're welcome. I wouldn't wanna do that to you... Anyway I'll.. get out of your hair now. See you.." Then she walked off.

"See you."

You scratch your neck sheepishly and gently. "I need to.. go to homeroom now." Then you began to make your way up the staircase, heading to the third floor.

When you arrived outside the classroom, you slid open the door and stepped inside, going to your seat. You hung your schoolbag on the hanger on the side of your desk. Suddenly Tsukasa came up to you.

"Hey, [Y/N]! What did Nene talk to you about?" Tsukasa asked curiously, making you a little embarrassed. You noticed Rui wasn't in the classroom yet so...

"Uhm," you murmured, "she just... talked to me about.. Rui. Nothing too major."

Tsukasa looked a little surprised. "Huh... Wait, but why?" He asked, putting his left hand on his hip and holding a fist under his chin.

You paused, unsure of what to say. You didn't wanna tell Tsukasa... It's not that you didn't trust him, but because you didn't know if Rui told him and didn't wanna be telling other people someone else's business.

"It was related to our project," you lied, "Rui was doing something so she asked me about it for him. That's.. all, nothing else."

Tsukasa seemed skeptical, but he didn't push it any further. "Huh... Okay! Anyway, speaking of Rui... have you seen him? Do you know when he's coming or what he's doing?"

You shook your head. "No, not really... Why?"

"Just wondering. Class starts in—"

Suddenly Rui walked in the classroom. Something about him seemed... off, but he seemed to try and hide it. "Oh, morning Tsukasa and [Y/N]." He smiled in his usual cat-like way, but it didn't seem like him.

You wave to him awkwardly, sitting down in your seat and drowning out Tsukasa and Rui's conversation. "Ugh, what do I do?" You think to yourself, staring down at your desk with a blank expression that somehow seemed painful at the same time.
