15 Days Left...

Emma POV

"Well?" I asked Lila Jane anxiously. She had filled us all in on her cousin Thalia. "Did the dream thing work last night?"

She nodded. "Jezebel's on her way."

"Okay. What do we do now?"

"Well, Thalia might have trouble finding us in the middle of the woods, even with my directions. We should go somewhere it'll be easier for her to find us."

"That's a great idea and all," Zane said, "but keep in mind that if it's easier for Thalia to find us, it's easier for Christian and Liam to find us. We should be careful."

Harley frowned. "Hey... Did you guys, like, observe anything about that prison we were in?"

Carsten nodded. "You mean the back room labeled 'Camera Room'? Yeah. They took me through there because they left the keys to the cells in there. It's crazy. They have cameras hooked up to, like, everybody."

"Exactly," Harley said. "I heard them talking one night when they thought I was asleep. They said we were hooked up to cameras, like... like, robots... No. Like targets. Which we are, I guess."

Zane nodded, stepping in. "Yeah. And... Well, they said something about chips."

"Chips?" Anton asked. "Like, potato chips?"

Lila Jane gave him an incredulous look.

"No," I said, remembering. "Microchips. They gave us all anesthetics to knock us out, but those things never worked on me. I pretended to be asleep. They put little microchips under the skin in our foreheads... It didn't require surgery or anything. I don't know how they did it. But I think the anesthetics was just so we wouldn't know."

"Okay," Lila Jane said. "So how do you get them out?"

"We don't," Harley said. "We just hope Thalia finds us first, and then we run until we can figure this out. Hopefully, we find the Book of Stars. But we know by now, surely, that this is unavoidable. We will go to war. Now it's just a matter of buying more time so we can gather our thoughts."

"Okay, then," Anton said, "So are we going?"

We all looked to Lila Jane, our unspoken leader.

"Yes," she replied. "We are."

---

We arrived at the edge of the woods, and saw - of course - that it was raining.

"Great," Zane groaned, "Now what?"

"Um..." Lila Jane said. "Actually, maybe we should stop here. This way we can tell Thalia that we're at the edge of the woods, and we can set up here for the night, and if Liam or Christian find us, we can turn around and run through the woods to hide. It's perfect."

"Okay," I said, curling up on a tree stump. "Let's take shifts. Zane and me, Carsten and Anton, Harley and Lila Jane."

Harley nodded. "Good idea. It's... Ten o'clock now. We'll wake Emma and Zane up at one, then they'll wake Carsten and Anton up at four. Then they wake everyone up at seven."

"Okay. So, what exactly do we do now, other than wait?" Carsten asked.

"Other than wait?" Lila Jane asked. "Nothing. We just wait."
