Chapter 8: Lila Jane and Anton

Harley POV

My plan was clearly genius.

Carsten, Zane, and Emma had expertly combined their powers to crack the metal on my jail cell enough for me to break out.

Then, I had gotten the keys off the hook on the wall and released them.

I had found a pen in the desk drawer, and I couldn't resist writing a quick note to our captors.

Once we escaped, I stole the first aid kit off the wall and patched myself up.

It had been about a day since our escape, and we were currently breaking in a forest.

We hadn't really had much time to talk... we were primarily focused on escaping. But now, as we sat on the forest floor (well, not really... I was perched on a low tree branch, Carsten and Emma on an overturned log, and Zane on a tree stump) I realized that we should get to know each other.

Since no one else made a move to say anything, I spoke up first.

"Well, this has been... interesting. How did you guys end up with those two morons?"

Carsten laughed. "Well, didn't you hear his plan?" He turned serious. "He told us his plan right before he kidnapped us."

"Well, I was kidnapped because I engaged in combat with him. Wasn't a chance for chit chat."

Carsten regarded me quizzically before continuing. "Well, basically, there's this prophecy that says the Highest Power, LCC, and DCC would start some sort of war. Supposedly, there were supposed to be three Naturals who went Cataclyst, a Dark Caster gone Light, a baby that saved a life, two resurrections, and one major death."

"Oddly specific... But now that you mention it, I think I actually have heard that before. Okay, so what do Liam and Christian want with you guys?"

"I dunno... I think they're hoping it'll give them some means for wagering I guess..."

"Well, I'll protect y'all with my life," I joked.

Emma, who'd been on edge the whole time, giggled a bit. "Ya know," she said, "for a Dark Caster, you're all right."

"I thought the same thing."

All of us screamed, turning to the voice. I was relieved to see Lila Jane.

"Sorry," she said. "I was worried about you, Harley. Thanks for what you did for me. This is Anton."

"No problem... And hi Anton. This is Carsten, Zane, and Emma."

"Hi."

"What're you guys doing here?"

"Still looking for the Book of Stars... Did you give me the Book of Moons, by the way?"

I nodded. "Why don't we all stick together? Safety in numbers and all that."

They nodded.

Okay then.
