Chapter 7: Twenty Days

Macon POV

"What's the... LCC?"

I hoped it wasn't something obvious or well known or anything... I didn't want to look stupid in front of Ava.

Cassidy smiled, "can you keep a secret?"

"Of course. Yes." Good. It was a secret... I wasn't stupid. Well, I was... But Ava didn't know that yet.

"It stands for Light Caster Crew. Basically, we're a group of powerful Light Casters, searching for our fourth and fifth members and then getting the Highest Power to join our side to potentially save the world."

"Before the DCC gets all of their members. Because if they get the Highest Power first, they can destroy the world."

"And the DCC is the Dark Caster Crew?"

"Correct," Ava said.

"Okay... Well how many members do they have already?"

"Two. They still need Harley Stevenson, Jason DeMatt, and Thalia Duchannes."

I raised my eyebrow. "Who the hell is Thalia Duchannes? Shouldn't I know her?"

Ava gave me a funny look. Now she thought I was stupid. "Macon... It's your cousin. I think her name was formerly Jezebel?"

My heart plummeted to my feet. Jezebel was Dark. Crap.

"Oh."

"Yeah..." Ava said awkwardly. "Sorry."

"How can they tell who they need?"

"We see a prophecy."

"Oh... Okay. Well, so, who do you guys need?"

"We need Dylan Black and... Well, you."

"Me? Really? You want me?!"

Ava shook her head. "We don't want you. We need you."

"Right. Sorry. Um, but I'm not Claimed yet... I'm only fourteen."

Ava frowned, "your Claiming is in twenty days, Macon. Spoiler alert, you're definitely Light."

"What?! But..."

"We know this is hard to process," Cassidy said, "but your Claiming has been moved up by Liam Smythe. Apparently he has big plans."

"Is he in the DCC?!"

"No... He's just... disturbed, I guess."

"Oh. So, there's five people total in the LCC and DCC?"

"There should be eventually, but sometimes we bring along extra people who could be powerful to help us in the case of an emergency. The DCC recently brought a kid named James, but he disappeared with Thalia."

"Oh."

"You're definitely a part though. As long as you don't die. No offense."

"I'll take what I can get. Man, finally, I beat Lila Jane at something! You want me, not her! Wait... Didn't you say you were looking for her? Why?"

Ava shifted uncomfortably. "First, we don't want you. We need you. Okay? I'm not saying it again. And... well, we're looking for Lila Jane because she's the Highest Power."

I groaned. "Of course she is. She just can't stay out of trouble, can she?"
