???4's POV

(conversation and thoughts in Argi - the most common language among anthros)

It's late at night. Even very late. If it were not for the lights of numerous hotels, apartments and nightclubs, there would probably be complete darkness around, which would be disturbed only by night stars in a clear sky. In front of me was a view of the coast and the ocean, where the lights of the billboards smoothly turned into the sea blackness of the night. Despite the city, which lived its life, here - on the roof - it was completely quiet. Practically the only things I felt were the mild cold coming from the brick railing on the roof and the light breeze tickling me all over my fur. The whole was conducive to building a great peace in me, a kind of nirvana.

Despite the fact that I was aware that the party was still going on downstairs (or rather, was already ending), I was somehow in no hurry to go down there. I wanted to stay here and at least for these next fleeting moments enjoy what I had before my eyes. For I knew that these moments would be my last on this vacation. After all, I was going back to work today. So I took a deep breath in and out and gazed at the beautiful panorama around me.

Suddenly, I heard someone open the metal door of the staircase and slowly walk towards me. However, this someone stopped halfway.

???4: Estela. What are you doing here? I've been looking for you everywhere.

I recognized by the voice that behind me was Linda - my friend from work.

Estela: Nothing special. I'm just enjoying the view before we fly out.

I replied without turning toward her. There was a moment of silence.

Linda: You don't see something like this every day in New Rio, do you?

She sighed.

Linda: It was for such views and moments that we flew to Hawaii together.

I nodded slightly. She was right. I think this was just what I needed.

The last few months in counterintelligence work have been quite arduous. We received several reports of a potentially dangerous group of anthro smugglers whose activities were destabilizing certain areas of the Federation. At first glance, they appeared to be "just" an organized gang of criminals, but the fact that they had suspicious links to the North and the HLM (Human Liberation Movement) was a really serious matter.

To neutralize them, we had to kidnap its leaders at all costs. As top agents, Linda and I were tasked with infiltrating this group. This unfortunately took us several months - they were remarkably good at keeping their secrets. However, it wasn't that we didn't learn anything - we managed to get some valuable documents (without arousing suspicion) and it turned out that their leader regularly went to sea to meet with a certain human commander there on some ship from the North.
