Ignorance can be blissful, protecting us from the darker things of the world, but it can also be deadly. When we're young, we fear the things that go bump in the night, and the monsters who hide under our bed. Our parents tell us that it's all in our imagination; that there's nothing to fear. But are they speaking the truth, or simply out of ignorance?

Humans tend to ignore the impossible claiming that it's all apart of their subconscious, or an elaborate prank. But now I ask, do YOU believe in the impossible?

If your answer is no, exit this story, continue on with your life, scrolling aimlessly through the internet, and think nothing more of what you have just
read.

But, if by chance, you said yes, then proceed forward at your own risk. Just remember all the stories you read about monsters when you were young - they were real

Everything I'm about to tell you is true. This is my story, and how I became to believe in the unknown.

"Hey mom! Can I go to the store real quick?" It was a little after 8, and the sky was just beginning to darken. I had a craving that only Captain Crunch could satisfy, and I wouldn't rest until I got my sugary fix.

My mom came into the front room giving me a skeptical look, "What do you want to go to the store for, Lea? You just ate dinner!"

I give my mom a lopsided grin, "I want some cereal. I'm a growing girl... don't judge me!"

Shaking her head she turned and trudged out of the front room, and over to the kitchen. "Yeah go ahead. Just be careful, and bring me back a snickers."

Jumping up from the couch, I skipped into the kitchen, giving my mom a quick hug and kiss. I ran off towards the door, grabbing my keys along the way. I stopped in the doorway, turned around, and said, "Mom... I love you."

With the store only being two blocks away, I decide to walk. No point in wasting the little gas I had left in my tank. It didn't take long to get to get there. When I entered, I noticed that the store was surprisingly empty for a Friday night.

I made a beeline for the cereal - and selected a large box of Captain Crunch. I smiled at the cashier and handed over the money. "Thanks, have a goodnight," I told her before I headed out.

On the way home I ran into my friend Desiree. "Aye shawty, what you doing out so late?" I asked her jokingly.

We had known each other since we started high school, and were really close friends. Truthfully I kind of had a crush on her. She was an inch shorter than me with light brown skin and hair flowing down her back. She had doe eyes that had a sparkle to them that never went a away.

"I could ask you the same thing." She shot back. "So you going to take me home, or are you going to leave a poor girl like me out here alone?" She asked, putting her hands around my neck. I could feel the blush creep into my cheeks.

Being this close to her I can't help but glance down at her perfectly kissable lips. She must have seen me looking at them because she smirked, and said , "Lea, if you're going to kiss me then you should just do it. Don't worry, I don't kiss and tell."

I laughed nervously, "Really, Des? You know I wouldn't kiss you. You're straight remember? You switching teams now without telling me, Des?"

Raising an eyebrow she just gave me a sly smile before walking past me into the night. I stood there a minute, trying to collect my thoughts. When I calmed down slightly, I continued heading back home.

"Mom, I'm home! You want your snickers?" I yelled, unsure of where my mom was in the house.

"No right now! Put it in the fridge for me, ok? Thanks Baby." She yelled back.

As I yelled, "You're welcome!" my dog ran out of the restroom, to join me in the kitchen. "Hey I missed you too boy," I laugh as I try getting away from his ferocious sniffing. No matter where I went, he just kept following me. I gave up and fixed myself a bowl of cereal.

I went back to the kitchen, flopped down on the couch, and grabbed the remote. Turning on the tv, I channel surfed until I come to the channel 11 news. Shrugging I leave it there and begin eating.

As I casually grabbed handfuls of cereal from the bowl resting on my stomach, Mia Gradney came on looking very serious.

"A teen girl went missing yesterday night. Police have told us she had an argument with her boyfriend and nobody has seen her since. They are currently unsure of his whereabouts but if you see this young man, please call 911, or your local police." Above the newscaster's shoulder was a graphic showing a normal-looking teenage boy, alongside another - normal-looking - teenage girl.

Terror filled me. I knew them. They were in my class. The girl lived near me, and I didn't know her too well, but she was always so nice. Tomorrow I'd stop by her house and ask the family if there was anything I could do.

Yawning, I headed to the kitchen, and dumped my empty bowl in the sink. I bent down to pet my dog. I was going to miss him so much once I left. In the fall I'd be going school at Sam Houston State University. Thankfully, Desiree was going too.

I headed upstairs. After brushing my teeth, and taking a quick shower, I changed into a tank top and pajama pants. Laying in bed I checked for any notifications, but nobody loves me, and all my inboxes were empty. I turned my phone off, and plugged in the wall socket to charge it. I turned off the light, and went back to my bed. I was trying to fall asleep, when suddenly I felt a new, panting presence as my dog jumped on my bed to join me. After snuggling to the furry warmth that was Sam, I finally drifted off into a deep sleep.
