"Brynn?"

"Brynn!?" My voice is hoarse. I feel like my own lungs are suffocating me.

I claw at the asphalt under me, my nails scraping against it as i push myself upwards, gazing at the world in front of me.

Blood.

Oh my god there's so much blood.

"Brynn!" I attempt to scream out, but my voice only wheezes out now. My ribs are on fire. I can feel the pressure in both my ribs and lungs. I glance over at a car flipped over on the sidewalk with lidded eyes, the very one that hit me. All I see is bloodshed. The man who must've been once driving it is getting ripped to shreds.

It's eating him.

I try and breathe out, trying to attempt to catch my breath, but it just hurts. It hurts so bad. Did he break my ribs? Or at the very least puncture my lung?

I need to get out of here.

I need to find Brynn.

Attempting to get to my feet, I push myself completely up, groaning in pain as I try and ignore the wave of nausea that flowed through my body. I stumble back, glancing around once more. Everything—Decatur—is in flames, yet the blood is still seeping from every crack. I look past it, finding my eyes landing on my car- or was my car.

"Where.." I cough as softly as possible, my ribs already in flames by even just standing still. Where the fuck is my car?

Brynn.

That girl is just as smart as me, if not smarter. She must've taken it. She's alive. I hear a blood curdling scream on my left, causing me to instinctively grab from my pistol from its holster, pointing it at the man—or—creature eating one of my trainees.

"KAYDEN!" I scream as loud as I can before grabbing at my ribs with my free hand, trying to soothe the nauseating pain. I fire my pistol at that thing on top of him, eating away at his shoulder. I rush over as fast as I can drag myself, my own blood seeping down my forehead from where I hit the ground after being hit.

I let my knees bring me down to Kayden, the rough impact not making me wince once compared to the throbbing pain everywhere

"You're okay- Kayden you're going to be fine." The panic in my voice, my words sounding more like I'm trying to convince myself. I grab at Kayden's good shoulder, helping him to his feet as he curses out in pain.

"We need to leave. Now. Where are all the cars?" I ask him, my stomach dropping as I see one of the groaning creatures stumbling towards us. Before I even have the chance to aim at it, Kayden grabs my arm with his good one, yanking me towards one of the parking garages. He pulls its open, crying out in pain as he does so.

This kid is really devoted.

I hurriedly grab the keys, shoving them into the ignition as Kayden gets into the passengers seat, his bleeding shoulder soaking the seats as I finally getting the car to start. I pull out of the station faster than ever before, hitting that same creature on the way out. What are these things?

I drive down the roads, accelerating every time one of those things come stumbling for the car. I turn to my right, looking over at Kayden. "Do you know where Brynn is?" I ask him, his tired eyes meeting mine.

"Shit- Kayden you need to put pressure on that."

He raises his good hand, stopping me. "She tried to find you," He gulps, trying to push down the waves of sickness and agony. "She told me to tell you- that she's going to King County hospital.."

My stomach drops. That stupid girl that I love so much. "She's going to go find her parents. Her mom works there." I drift off, my eyes jolting around as I carefully watch the road, trying to avoid hitting actual living people. My head is pounding as I grip the steering wheel, my knuckles white.
