Natalie's POV.
My body lurches forward as I gasp out, trying to catch my breath. I frantically look around the room, waiting for my eyes to land on-
I pull myself out of this random bed, walking towards a couch that has somebody sleeping on it. I can't believe it. Brynn was here the whole time. "Brynn- Oh my god you have no idea how much stress you've put me through." I feel tears come to my eyes, my voice full of hope. Stopping at the end of the couch where her feet are, I shake her legs gently as the blanket covering her falls onto the floor.
She gets up from the couch, her back still to me. I hurriedly grab her arm, spinning her around to face me before I embrace her.
Stumbling back, the Turner who looks identical to Brynn turns around to face me. Blood is dripping from her—it's—mouth, flesh stuck between it's teeth as it mindlessly groans at me. I choke out a blood curdling scream.
My body lurches forward for a second time, yet this time I'm held down by something. I groan out in pain as I frantically try to free my wrists from whatever they're bound to. I relax for a moment, trying to figure out my situation; where the fuck am I? I silently curse myself for having those reoccurring dreams of finding Brynn only for it to be... not Brynn.
"Dad? Dad!" A child's voice calls out from the doorway, making my hazy eyes look towards where the noise is coming from. "Dad she's awake!"
I try and keep myself conscious, my vision continuously fading in and out of darkness. I toss my head back, the soft pillow behind me makes me sigh out in exhaustion. My head hurts more than anything. I hear faint footsteps walking towards the bed I'm stuck on; yet my ears are ringing softly, leaving me to wonder if I heard them at all to begin with.
I crack my eyes open slightly, the soft flickering lights from candles fill the small bedroom I'm in. A figure appears by my head, glancing down at me while he pulls up a seat beside the bed.
"I wrapped your shoulder. Your stitches were ripping." The man beside me calmy says, yet the uncertainty in his voice is evident. "What was it?"
Clearing my throat, I turn my head to the right to face the man who is now wiping down his hands with a towel. "I don't... I don't know." I manage to groan out, my throat is dry and my head is still pounding.
"You weren't bit; were you?" His eyes are now locked onto mine, his words firm and his posture now tense.
"No- I was hit by a car just a... a day ago?" Even if I knew the truth, I still wouldn't be sure. I can't remember how long ago it has been since I was hit. Maybe a day ago, yet maybe two?
The man nods his gaze still on me. He flicks his switch blade, shoving the cool metal close to my face. "You try anything, I will kill you with it—and don't you think I won't."
All I can do is nod, staring directly at the tip of the blade. This guy really doesn't trust anyone, huh? I can't lie, I expected some ease on his threat, but I guess this is what equality tastes like. Not that I'm complaining too much, this is what I've been working to fight for.
The man shifts the blade away from me, cutting the ties around my wrists. "Come on out when you're able." His words linger in the air as he leaves the room with his son; who I've just noticed now was guarding the door with a baseball bat. I slowly turn over onto my side, practically curling myself up into a ball.
What has my life come to in just less than a week?
I gaze off towards the wall in front of me, letting my thoughts drown me. The feeling of guilt overwhelms me knowing I've failed my best friend—my sister—and still; I don't know where she is. She could be anywhere, and I'm here.
