october 29, sunday

you had swept the events of last night to the back of your mind. while you were going on with the rest of your day work-free, connie was at work at the start of the day. his mind had been occupied with the thoughts of you talking to your ex and he was jumping to conclusions. but he really couldn't tell if it was because of the smoking or he was just crazy.

"y/n~" you let tia in with a hug before closing the front door behind her. jean was away at work and you were doing online class work the whole day until she came. weirdly enough, you hadn't heard from connie. yeah he was at work but normally he'd call or text during breaks or whenever he wasn't busy.

"can you braid my hair down for my appointment tomorrow?" you looked at her like she was crazy.

"tomorrow? you sure you're okay with walking around with jail braids for a day?"

"girl i'm pregnant, i don't give a fuck how i look for a few hours." you rolled your eyes.

"i'm aware. what time is your appointment?" tia scratched at the back of her head.

"9:30."

you scoffed. "good thing you came to me now because i'm not gonna wanna do it tomorrow morning. i gotta work." tia sat

"can i order food first?" you nodded before pulling out your phone and checking the delivery apps. as tia scrolled through the options, you couldn't help but glance at your phone, hoping for a notification from connie. nothing. the silence from him was gnawing at you, even though you tried to convince yourself it was just a busy day for him.

tia finally decided on pizza, and as you placed the order, you tried to shake off the unease that had settled in your stomach. "alright, let's get started," you said, leading tia to the living room where you had your hair tools.

you began parting her hair, your hands moving automatically as your mind wandered back to connie. was he upset with you? the memory of your conversation with your ex flashed in your mind. it had been innocent enough, but you knew how these things could be perceived.

you were well into braiding tia's hair when your phone vibrated with a text from connie.

"who's that?" tia nearly broke her neck trying to turn around and be nosy.

"just connie. i think something is wrong because he hadn't said anything to me all day."

tia hummed. "did anything happen at the party?" you thought for a second but the only thing that came to mind was when he saw zayvion talking to you and you knew he couldn't have been upset about that, right?

you texted him back and put your phone down and getting back to work. the pizza had been delivered and you took another break with tia to eat before finally finishing her cornrows. when you finished, you picked up your phone to see multiple missed calls from connie so you called him back.

"why the fuck you not answering your phone? we need to talk." you could almost laugh because his behavior was so ridiculous. where was all this coming from? he was on speaker so tia could hear and she turned around, raising a brow.

you took him off speaker. "you don't have to get loud, what's your problem?"

"i'm coming over, bye." connie hung up on you and that sent you off. from your perspective, you were in the dark and didn't understand why connie was upset all of a sudden. but you would soon find out.

you had vented to tia about the interaction before she left and connie came over. luckily jean wasn't home yet to be in anyone's business.

"now what's—"

"you still fuckin with your ex?" listening to his question was enough alone to upset you. it was stupid of him to even ask anything like that.

"no, connie. why would you ask a stupid ass question like that?"

"then why were you even talking to him when i walked up on y'all last night? the fuck were y'all talking about?"

"he was still tryna talk to me even though he came with a girl and i told him to get the fuck on. what did you think we talked about?" connie felt a bit dumb because you were too honest about it but to him there was still a possibility. connie really liked you and he didn't want to be played.

you looked down. "i'm not going back to him, if that's what you're worried about." all connie did was scoff.

"then stop talking to him."

"he talks to me first—"

"don't care, learn how to ignore people." you rolled your eyes because you believed he was trying to make an issue out of nothing. even though it was sensible to be cautious, jumping to conclusions was not the way to go about it.

"okay, connie," you stood up from the couch, getting bored from being surrounded by his attitude. "is that all you came here for? to yell at me?"

"no..." he stood up too and pulled you into a hug. "i also wanted to see you." you rolled your eyes.

"you didn't even give me a chance to ask how your day was."

"it's good now." he had the audacity to smile but you had even more to smile back. he never failed to pull those muscles in your face.

"well that's—" you were distracted by jean walked in with makayla.

"hey~why is he here?" jean raised a brow.

connie plopped back down on the  couch. "fuck you mean? i practically live here now."

"he does?" this was maybe the second time you've heard makayla talk ever since seeing her with jean.

"yeah him and y/n are fucking so—"

"we are not fucking." jean rolled his eyes.

"sure." you followed jean into the kitchen to talk to him some more, leaving connie in the living room with makayla. you weren't paying attention to them and their conversation at all but there was something unknowingly telling you that you probably should have. when your conversation with jean was over, makayla and connie were laughing all of a sudden and while you looked a bit puzzled, you could basically feel jean's jaw tensing at the sight.

"okay~kayla you ready to go?" she looked confused as if she wasn't ready to leave. you knew that any other time she'd be trailing behind jean like a lost puppy so you didn't know what was so different about this time.

"go where?"

"we were going out to eat after work remember? i just had to stop by the house for a few minutes." you watched her pretend to remember.

"oh shit yeah," she got up off the couch and met jean at the open front door. "bye yall~"

jean rolled his eyes but she couldn't see. "i'll be back." and with that jean closed the door behind the two of them.

you looked at connie with your hands crossed over your chest. "what was y'all over here laughing about?"

"catching up, why?"

"because you were just tryna check me about my ex so i wanted to make sure you weren't trying anything either." all connie did was laugh and stand up.

"i told you me, her, and jean used to be friends. it was awkward for a while because of her and jean but i wanted to clear the air." that made sense but there was still something strange about the whole thing. so you shrugged it off.

"okay cool." you headed to your room.

"umm where you going?"

"my room, duh. you coming?"

"hell yeah." even though you and connie were comfortably hanging out, the problems from before still sat in the back of your minds.
