In your senior year of college, you were at the local library in your hometown, Fort Lauderdale, continuing research for your senior thesis. You sat in an isolated corner of the common space, books and notes open to concepts of physics and aerodynamics.
For most of your life, you had a few close friends, a couple crushes here and there, but no situationship really lasted nor did you feel any sort of attachment. To you, everything was about finishing school and finding a job, love was just a foreign, complicated concept to you, despite your knowledge in complex theorems and formulas.
The table you sat at had another chair across from you that you left empty, not anticipating anyone would want to sit wirh you. You were finishing annotating a text on inertia, music blasting in your air pods, until you were distracted by someone waving their hand in front of your face. You took your air pods out, looking up at the stranger, a blond, almost six foot man, with a navy blue backpack slung over his shoulder. He looked like he was around your age, maybe a year older.
"Hey, do you mind if I sit here?" he gestured to the empty spot.
Not wanting any kind of confrontation, you quietly replied, "No, I don't mind," You quickly realized how awkward the interaction was, but the stranger didn't give it another thought.
You were almost done with your work at the library, but you thought it would be extremely rude if you left the second this person sat across from you, so you stayed a little bit longer, putting your air pods back in their case.
"If you don't mind me asking, what are you studying?" the man asked, taking a look at one of the closed books that you were done using as a reference.
"Physics and aerodynamics,"
"You're doing that willingly?" he chuckled, looking at you in shock.
You nodded, unsure of his tone. "Is there anything wrong with it?" you inquired, curious as to why the stranger disliked the study of a concept you found so intriguing.
"No, no, sorry I didn't mean it like that," he ran his his hands through his blond hair, nervously, thinking he gave you the wrong impression.
"I have to know stuff like aero for a living, and it just so mind boggling to me," he laughs awkwardly. He had a little bit of an English accent when he said certain words, but you could still tell that he was from Fort Lauderdale.
"Oh...interesting," you had even more questions now, but you didn't want to come off as too aggressive.
Sensing that the conversation was getting stale, the stranger introduced himself. "My name's Logan by the way,"
"Nice to meet you," you introduced yourself. You felt like this was an awkward ice breaker that you were doing at a new job, or like the one you did in your freshman year.
"I'm here to read up on traffic laws, pretty exciting right?"
You raised an eyebrow, confused as to why someone like him would be studying basic street knowledge. You were slightly judging him, since most people around your age already had their driver's license, but then again people your age were losing said license from doing stupid on the streets.
"Why'd you wait so long?" you quietly asked, not wanting to be rude.
"What was that?" he asked, unable to hear you, "I know we're in a library, but you're gonna have to speak just a bit louder,"
You cleared your throat, "I was asking why you waited for so long to learn to drive,"
Logan laughed at your question, "Oh I know how to drive, just not on streets like the average person,"
"So you drive a unicycle around?" you couldn't help yourself, this was a pretty strange conversation you were having, and at this rate, anything was possible.
"No," he grinned at your teasing, "I race. Like for a living. I'm brushing up on the road laws here so I feel slightly reassured that I can drive normally, and not like I'm racing,"
You started to slowly pack your things into your backpack, but Logan's gaze stayed fixed on you.
"I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, or boring you. I can leave if you want,"
"No, it's fine, really. I was just thinking of picking up a coffee at the place next door," you blushed, a little flustered that he could read you like a book.
As you were putting your laptop in it's case, you had an idea. It wasn't a better way to write a formula, and it certainly wasn't to leave the library empty handed.
"If you're not busy...would you wanna come with me for some coffee?"
"Yeah, I'd be so down," he lit up with a warm smile, putting his book on traffic laws in his bag.
"I hope I wasn't intervening with any hardcore studying you were planning to do," you said as the two of you walked out of the library.
"Oh right...studying. Yeah I was definitely going to study, but I think coffee with you is a better idea,"
A/N: i wrote this chapter during the Canadian GP weekend and it's just after the Spanish GP and there's a clip where David Coulthard makes fun of Logan's parking abilities in the driver's parking lot. what can I say I was pretty accurate with this one 💀
