CHAPTER 7

Unlucky

It was already 8:00 nang umalis sina Alri. And back alone inside the condo. I did my simple routine and opened my laptop.

Nang bumukas ay kaagad na bumungad ang messages mula sa firm na dati kong pinagta-trabahuan. After I message them last night about if I'm still allowed to work after I left for a year.

Ang una kong binuksan ay ang mensahe ni Jaden.

"Finally you're back Thamara" Yun ang sabi niya. Kaagad naman akong nagtipa nang reply.

"Ah yeah, it's been a while" reply ko.

Sunod kong binuksan ang mensahe mula sa isa sa nakatataas sa firm.

"Hello Thamara, your inquiries about working back to the firm. You know you are one of the best Thamara and we will still welcome you to the firm. And we also understand what happened to you and that you just needed rest."

"Thank you, Sir I will never waste this opportunity to be back" I replied.

I stretch my arms as the news relieved me.

"Just tell us when will you comeback so that we can make some arrangements" anito.

"Anytime you need Sir, kahit po bukas" I replied.

"Monday then."

"Okay sir, I'll be at the firm by monday"

Biglang nagpop up ang pangalan ni Jaden.

"You don't know how stressful it was nung umalis ka" nailing nalang ako sa reply niya.

The night was filled with talks and greetings from my officemates, how the firm worked in the year that I was gone. They also mentioned the new employees and the old ones.

In the morning kaagad akong bumangon para mag-agahan dahil sa maggro-grocery ako sa araw nato. Kakalipat ko lang kaya wala pang stocks sa condo, but the appliances are already here.

I drive the car straight to the mall to buy some groceries. Nang dumating ako, kaagad akong bumaba ng kotse at naglakad papasok ng mall. I quickly look for the grocery section.

I pick a cart and started buying that things that I needed. I tip toed to reach a product that is in the higher part of the shelves.

I think, I should call a salesman.. but before I could look for a salesman a hand reaches for what I needed. Nasa likod ko siya and I can feel his strong built. But his scent is just like..

"Ah thanks" ani ko at tinanggap ang kailangan, when I looked at his face. I was never wrong, the man in front of me is the man I loved years ago.. it's Giovan.

"You're always welcome" ani ya.

"Um mauuna na ako" ani ko bilang pagpapa-alam.

"D-Do you need help, I can help you" ani ya. Tumaas ang kilay ko sa inasta niya.

"No need, kaya ko" ani ko. At naglakad na pero naramdaman ko siya na nakasunod sa akin. Kaya huminto ako at nilingon siya.

"Kaya kong mag-isa" ani ko at tiningnan siya.

"Uh, I'll buy some stuff too" aniya at tinuro ang dulo na section kung saan naroon ang mga washing stuff. Uminit ang mukha ko sa hiya, akala ko sinusundan niya ako. Nakakahiya! Kaagad ko siyang tinalikuran at nagmadali na makalayo roon.

What the heck are you thinking Thamara! Porke nag-offer na tumulong aakalahin mo nang sinusundan ka! Ghad!

Minadali ko ang paggro-grocery at dumiretso sa counter. After I paid the bills kaagad kong tinulak ang cart papunta sa kung saan ko pi-nark ang sasakyan at dahil marami-rami ang dala ko kaya may kasama akong sales man na siyang nagdala sa iba ko pang binili.

The salesman help me carry the groceries and put it in the back of the car. It's easy for me dahil may kasama ako, what I'm troubled is that kaya ko ba tong iakyat papunta sa unit ko. I should call Kaleb or Arc.

I dialed Kaleb's phone but before I could call him naalala ko ang sinabi ni Kaleb. The last time we met, it was wednesday I think.

"Tham, one of these days, I won't be around so take care of yourself 'kay?"

"Umm yeah, I can take care of myself, San ka ba pupunta by the way?" Ani ko.

"I-l'll just go on a vacation maybe a week" aniya.

"A week? that's long" ani ko

"Uh I just wanna rest for a while"

"You sound fishy, you're dating?!" Ani ko.

"No no no, I'm not!"

"Don't worry Kal, I will understand if you already have a girlfriend like you're much older than me and you're still not married. I will be troubled if never kang magkapamilya" ani ko.

"Shut it, Tham" aniya.

"Mmmm.. so who's the unlucky girl?" I said curiously.

"Do you really things I'm such a bad person, I cared for you for so many years yet you think so low of me, Tham" aniya.

"Hey, hey, hey that doesn't sound like you Kal" ani ko.

"Just shut it, I won't be here next week so take care of yourself, I'll be going" ani ya at hinalikan ang noo ko at mabilis na naglakad palayo.

Napailing na lamang ako, so I dialed Arc's number. But sadly his phone is off, maybe in a meeting.

"Thankyou kuya" ani ko nang mapasok na lahat nang pinamili ko.

"No problem po ma'am, sige ma'am aalis na po ako" ani ya.

"Thanks again" ani ko bago pumasok narin sa sasakyan.

I started the engine and drive slowly but before I could drive longer I felt the uneasy driving meaning the wheel is flat! What an unlucky day!!

Inis ko tiningnan ang likod ng sasakyan, dam/it I knew it!

I called for help and they said they'll be here for maybe 2 hours because they are still working with other vehicle. I should call for a taxi.

Nagsimula na akong maglakad palabas ng parking area, before I could go out tumigil ang isang sedan sa harap ko. And the window started going down. Of all people it's Giovan. What a coincidence.

"This time, you really need help" aniya.

"I will call for a taxi, I don't want to trouble yo-"

"You will never be a trouble, Tham" aniya. Ugh what's wrong with him. Seriously Tham? Are we close? The last time I remember he's so cold to me for 2 years. Oh not only two years but so many years already!

"'kay, my car's over there. Naroon ang pinamili ko" ani ko.

Kaagad kong binalikan ang sasakyan ko at binuksan ang likod ng sasakyan.

He parked his car and went out.

"I will carry everything just go inside the car" aniya.

"I can't carry it, don't worry"

"I will carry it, just sit inside" aniya.

"It will be more late if you'll be the only one to carry it" ani ko.

"Stubborn as always" rinig kong sambit niya.

"What?"

"Nothing" aniya and he chuckled a bit. Is he crazy? Laughing without a reason that's kind of creepy.

We both carry the things and put it inside his car.
