Chapter 21: Belle

The next morning I spent my free period with Hermione in the courtyard. All the fourth years had a free period, so dragged Hermione over to talk about what had happened last night.

"So Cedric confessed but you rejected him? Belle from the past would die to live that moment!" She laughs.

I join her in laughing "I know, but it just didn't feel right to date Cedric when I don't like him anymore."

Hermione nods "I'm proud of you, you did the right thing. Always be honest with your feelings."

I sigh "But I felt so bad for rejecting Cedric"

She places her head on my shoulder "Belle, listen to me, stop being so selfless all the time!"

I nodded "I know, that's why I'm going to find him later at dinner tonight and tell Draco how I actually feel about him."

Hermione excitedly brings me into a tight bear hug "That's my girl, I'm so proud of you."

I laugh "I hope it works out," I say nervously.

"I'm sure it will, everyone except for you can tell that he likes you" Hermione teases.

Later that evening, as the students start finishing their dinner and leaving the great hall I glance over at the Slytherin table. Draco was chatting with his friends, Pansy was sitting next to him, openly flirting with him. But he never responded and simply ate his food ignoring her. I smirk before nervously walking over to him.

I take a deep breath slowly trotting over. Pansy takes a quick glance in my direction before grabbing Draco's face and pulling him into a kiss. My eyes widened in shock, as my footsteps stopped. Draco quickly pulled away turning his head to face where I was standing.

I swallowed back tears and rapidly turned around, sprinting out of the dining hall. Loud footsteps trailed behind me as I sped away.

"Belle! Wait!" Draco yelled after me.

I ignored his desperate calls and ran faster.

He sprints after me "Wait! It's not what you think! We didn't do anything!"

I continued to run through the hallways. Fearing if I turned back to look at him my tears would fall from my eyes. I could hear footsteps sprinting from behind trying to catch up to my speed. I turned the corner to running out into the fields.

Just then, rain started falling from the clear blue sky. Droplets of water cover my face. Suddenly a hand grips my wrist and spins me around. As I stare into Draco's stormy grey eyes, a single drop of tears rolls down my cheek. Draco instinctively reached out to wipe my tears away. I push him and take a step back.

"You were there to find me, weren't you? What did you want to say?" His gaze softens.

I shook my head "Nothing, it's nothing. Go back to your new girlfriend" More tears fall from my eyes as I speak. Thankfully the rain fell harder hiding my tears.

Draco ran his fingers through his drenched hair "Pansy isn't my girlfriend, you know I would never date her."

I swallow back a sob "Then why were you kissing her?"

"She grabbed me before I could react," Draco replied pausing for a moment. "But why do you care? You and Cedric are together right?"

I slowly shake my head "No, we're not together. I rejected him."

Draco's mouth drops "But- why? We did all that just for him to like you, so why?"

My tears fell uncontrollably "It's you! You!" I yelled through sobs.

"What?" He looked at me with a confused expression.

I screamed through the loud rain "I don't want him! It's you that I want! I stopped liking him for a while now because I started liking you! You're the one who keeps me up at night, lying awake thinking about you. You're the one I look for in the crowds, you're the one I watch in quidditch. You're the one I desperately want to see, want to be beside! Not him, you!"

Draco shook his head "Why would you choose me over him? I can't love you like he does. I'm rude and arrogant, people hate me! He's taller, older, more handsome. The right choice would be to be with him! Belle, you're too good for me!"

I scoff in disbelief "Draco Malfoy. I do not care what other people think about you, I love you the way you are. You made me fall for you, not Cedric. I like you for the way you are!"

"But I can't make you happy like he does, I can't-"

I cut off his sentence "Draco Malfoy I will love you whether you like it or not. So do you love me?"

"I-I- I'm not good enough for you-" He stutters.

I stare into his eyes "Do you love me?"

Draco nods "I love you! I've loved you from the moment I saw you four years ago. I've loved you in every moment, every hug, every kiss. I couldn't help but hope you would like me back even if our relationship was fake. I love you, and I always will."

He hesitated to continue. Raindrops fell soaking his entire body "But I'm not good enough for you I-"

I shake my head "Shut up"

I stride across the field until I was standing in front of him. I grabbed his collar and slammed my lips onto his desperately. He instantly responded by wrapping his arms around my waist pulling me closer into his embrace. Rain fell on our faces as our lips collided. Sparks were flying and it all felt perfect. His fingers threaded through my wet hair as we kissed passionately under the pouring rain.

Soon, we stepped back to catch our breath. I stared into his beautiful grey eyes before smiling.

"So, what are we?" I asked nervously.

Draco breaks into a wide grin "Whatever you want, love"

I genuinely smile for the first time in weeks and step forward to plant another soft kiss on his cheek.

"I love you, Draco" I whisper into his ear.

He wrapped his arms around my waist "I love you, Beauty"

I once believed love was just the giddy, exciting feeling around someone, but now I finally understand love is the comfort, passion, and happiness found with the most unexpected person who's been there all along.

Love is rare, love is beautiful, love is golden. 

And my love is Draco Malfoy.
