Zora Mayfield's pool party of the Barrington Academy century, according to the student body, was held at the large sprawling estate of US Senator Vernon Mayfield which was located in the wealthy and exclusive PG county neighborhood of Evergreen Acres. It was not a neighborhood that familiar to Dr. DuBuis Lane and the man was not particularly comfortable as he drove his niece Luci and Spencer's nephew Theodore to the party. Although he was thankful that since Spencer's earlier outburst at the kitchen table the two had been on their very best behavior. Not to say they were best buddies or anything but they had mutually agreed to just not talk to or acknowledge each other's existence. As they both left the car in front of the massive house , Luci in her brand new canary yellow one piece bathing suit that had a small frilly ruffle near the bottom which hid certain aspects of her pre op transgender body , Theodore in lilac cotton shorts and a matching tee shirt, DuBuis wondered how long their truce would last. Hopefully longer than one night, he thought as he asked," How long is this thing again? "
Luci adjusted her matching to her swimsuit bathing cap which she had tucked her long black hair into. " It's from five to seven, Uncle D ," she replied. " And please, please don't ask to talk to the Mayfields. You'll embarrass me."
DuBuis laughed. " Yeah that would be so rough. Call me when you all are ready to be picked up. Have fun. "
He drove off and they went around to the back of the property where they heard loud pulsating music and the sound of kids laughing and splashing around in the huge Olympic style swimming pool.
The first person they saw was Zora Mayfield who was wearing an itty bitty hot pink bikini , her blonde curly hair cascading past her shoulders. She ran over to them and air kissed with Luci. " Welcome ! ," she bubbled out.
Then she looked at Theodore with amusement in her eyes. " Hey , Theodore! Glad you came too. Kyle is eager to see you. "
Theodore flushed red in his pallid face.
Luci rolled her eyes.
Zora winked at him.
