ANANDITA'S POV
I tapped my foot on the car carpet, turning my gaze from the passing view to the screen in my hands, then to Neil, who was driving me to my mother's place. The sun was directly overhead; it was noon, and the bright light cast sharp shadows across the dashboard.
With a heavy sigh, I looked at the screen again. An SMS message from an unknown number had appeared:
Can we meet at Nars's Cafe this evening? It's urgent, related to your husband; don't inform him. ~ Nikita
Nikita. Kartikeya's childhood friend and also his employee. How did she get my number? I frowned, puzzled, and slightly uneasy. What could she possibly want to discuss about Kartikeya that's so urgent, especially without informing him? We're not exactly close, and honestly, I haven't been eager to get to know her either.
But she mentioned it's related to Kartikeya. I can't just ignore that. There's a knot of curiosity and concern forming in my stomach.
I texted back, "Sorry, not possible today."
"Okay. Then tomorrow or you can decide," she replied promptly.
"I'll let you know," I typed back, unsure of what to expect.
I decided not to say anything to Kartikeya just yet. I'll wait and see if I feel comfortable going to meet Nikita. Till then, I'll try to keep calm and not let my imagination run wild with possibilities.
