Ink's POV
The room was deathly silent, the awkwardness killing me inside. I sat in a chair in the corner of Error's office with Beatrice and Xander standing at my side. None of us dared to speak while the King of Vampires leaned against his desk and stared at nothing in particular, anger radiating from him.
After the festival was evacuated and Error dealt with the werewolves, he has yet to say anything.
Suddenly Error gripped the edge of the heavy hardwood desk, picked it up without effort and threw it out through the window behind him. The act of rage caused the three of us to flinch from the unpredicted movement. A part of me was sad that such a beautifully crafted piece of glass was now destroyed.
Error: How were they able to find us?
He spoke, anger seething from his voice.
Error: They should have not been able to, the magic barrier keeps the outside world from the seeing the kingdom.
'There is a barrier? No one told me that.'
Error: Yes, Ink, there is one. It was recently created for the festival.
He spoke to me with a concerningly calm tone of voice.
There were a few seconds of silence before Beatrice started speaking.
Beatrice: They must have been actively looking for us and then they got lucky.
Error: Perhaps.
He said as he fixed his posture and smoothed out his clothing. He clicked his tongue.
Error: Werewolves are getting quite brave to attack the capital of vampires. It seems they want to finish this war, they will get the war they want.
His majesty looked at Xander, I could see the servants next to me trembling. I would have been afraid as well but for some reason I was not fearful with him, even in the angered state he was in.
Error: Did you get anything out of the mutated beast?
Xander: Y-Yes your majesty. After s-some torture we we-
Error: What method did you use?
Xander: The tiniest bit of vampiric venom.
Error let out a groan.
Error: His punishment deserves more pain than that.
Xander: U-Unfortunately he died from it. However we were able to gather that the lunar pack is-s traveling f-from the north and they will entering a part of our territory along their predicted travel path.
'Lunar pack? That is Reaper's former pack.'
Error's eyes moved from Xander to me. I then realized that I had thought too much, potentially putting my friend in danger.
Error: Guards, get me that god damned stray.
I heard metal clanking from outside the office doors. They were listening in and they wasted zero time when they received their command.
Silence fell over the room again. Error stared out the broken window. Then he spoke quietly.
Error: How could I let this happen? I should have been better at protecting my kingdom. Fifteen innocent people are dead now.
Beatrice: You did the best you could. From what Xander told me, you still need to train more and that you are king two years early. I would say you did a good job from letting those werewolves kill more people.
The king said nothing in response. I sat still in my chair, fidgeting with my brown scarf. The awkwardness was becoming too much for me.
Me: I am going to get some rest.
I broke the quiet atmosphere as I stood from my chair.
Error: Very well. The two of you will leave as well.
Xander: Yes, your majesty.
The servants followed behind me into the hallway. As the butler went to close the door, he spoke one last time.
Xander: I will organize for a new desk to be made and for the window to be fixed.
He closed the door and joined Beatrice and I.
(Time Skip)
I sat on my bed and stared at the fire in the hearth. The curtains were closed to keep the sunlight from disturbing me when I slept and the castle was kept quiet.
Suddenly my bedroom doors opened which led to me being greeted with the king.
Me: Error. You are still up as well?
He nodded in response as he closed the door behind him and walked over to my bed. Error sat down next to me and rested his head against my shoulder.
Me: Are you okay?
I did not hear anything but then there were the soft sounds of...
Crying
