3rd Person POV

A long time ago, when the kingdoms were much smaller, there was a growing village called Kingridge. At the church of the Sun was a beautiful priestess named Mary. She was often compared to Mother Mary in Catholicism for her kindness and soft nature.

The church that Mary found refuge in was quite influential among the village, and country for that matter, as it was in close relations with the King and the Sun God itself.

Despite the generosity of the church, there were still strict rules for the priests and priestesses. They could not drink alcohol. They always had to the wear the white robes of light. They could only sleep under the roof of the church. They could never fall in love as their only need was the Sun God. These rules were not to be broken.

However Mary had broken the most important rule of Sun Priests, falling in love. At night she would sneak out and meet up with the village brewer named Rorik. She loved his creativity for his art and his wine. Rorik made Mary feel like she was the only woman in the world. Their love would remain a secret until a sudden change in the village.

One day a man arrived in the small kingdom. He claimed to be the son of the Sun, being named Arthur. His evidence was his magic. It shined bright white which chased away the shadows. The church held a celebration for the arrival of their savior and they worked to keep his attention and love. However Arthur had already fallen in love with the village, or more precisely with Mary.

He would follow her around, even resorting to stalking if that was the only option. One night he found out about the love between Rorik and Mary. He knew the rules of the church at that point, the priests could never fall in love. Their secret love was revealed to the church.

The church confronted Mary, threatening to kill Rorik if she did not break up with the local wine brewer. She was heartbroken as she could no longer be with her soulmate.

Mary ran into the forest during a cloudless night. She cried under the protection of the darkness until there were no more tears.

"Why are you sad on such a beautiful night?"

Someone had asked from the shadows. Mary looked up from her tear covered hands and saw a mysterious woman. She was adorned in a long white dress and her hair was of the same color. Mary noticed a strange glow around the woman.

"Are you a ghost?"

"No. I am much more than that. I am the grace of your world, the beauty and the peace. My name is Lady Mava but you mortals call me 'Moon'."

Mary looked into the sky, seeing that there was a piece missing from it. The once bright white moon was now gone.

"Why are you here?"

  The mortal asked.

"I came to give you a gift. An escape from those that have hurt you."

The Moon knelt in front of Mary, brushing away one of her pitch black strands that had fallen over her eyes.

"I can make you better, Mary. But there a few sacrifices you must make."

"Can I be with my love?"

"Of course. They should have never separated your soulmate from you."

Mary thought about the Moon's offer. What was this gift? Could it really make her better?

The Moon was pleased when her offer was accepted. Mary stayed still as the Moon leaned down slightly, feeling a cold and somewhat painful kiss on her neck.

That kiss would grant Mary immortality. She felt stronger and more aware of the world around her. The colors of the night were vivid and no sound escaped her. Magic, a rarity among mortals, coursed through her. However such a gift came with a price of course.

Mary had lost the light within her. She could never see the Sun again and she was now a priestess for the Moon.

There was a secret motive behind the gift of Lady Mava. She was angered that no one appreciated the night, often fearing it instead. She wanted Mary to spread her influence and let other mortals know of the true beauty and peace that the Moon brought to their world.

Mary was rebellious at first. She still followed the Sun which did not go well with the Moon. The Moon cursed Mary as a punishment. Mary would forever crave the blood of mortals, now needing to feed from them in order to survive. Her teeth would be dangerously sharp so she could easily pierce any neck. Her eyes would turn red when her hunger had become too great.

However the Moon was not all terrible. She allowed Mary to grant her gift to others to spread her influence and she allowed Mary to be with Rorik. Mary was given one more gift before the Moon retreated back into the safety of the sky. The blood of Rorik would match the taste that Mary found most pleasing. To her, Rorik tasted like pomegranate wine.

This new race was easily influenced by the Moon. When the goddess was red from anger, they would lose control and attack anyone around them. When she was blue, it was meant to be a night of intimacy with ones soulmate.

Arthur hated what Mary had become, he could no longer have control of her actions. Under the title of "savior", he was able to create hatred and fear among the mortals which then caused the ongoing conflict between the two races.

After a few hundred years, this unnamed race began to increase in numbers. Mary was made patron of a new religion and the Moon's influence had become strong. They decided to name themselves...
