Travis sighed as he kneeled down next to her inspecting the kitten in his fiancés hands. It was a tiny ragdoll with eyes the exact same shade as hers. It must have been only a few hours old at best and when he looked back up he could see the collapsed form of a larger cat.

Fuck. He couldn't let her see that, it would crush Taylors heart and he knew it. Okay common you two, you're gonna get a cold if you stay out here in the wet grass." He sighed, picking Taylor up, making her squeal as he carried her and the kitten in her hands back to the porch and pushed open the door .

He carried them inside and put her down on the large couch in the living room, grabbing a blanket for Taylor which she immediately used to make a nest for the cat so he took another, unfolded it and draped it over her. He handed her a phone and put some digits in , the other end immediately accepting his call. "tell them whatever you need for that and they'll bring it, I have to make another call"

That's all he said before going back outside. He didn't give the kitten another glance while Taylor started to ramble into the phone the multitude of things she would need. Travis himself went back out to the garden , grabbed a shovel and went back to the cat.

He carefully took the dull end of his pocket knife to examine the cat. Her stomach was still swollen , she must have died very soon after giving birth to the tiny kitten and a soft sigh escaped Travis lips. God nature was cruel.

"don't worry we will take care of your baby. Well she will, I already know she will be attached to it like its her own and I will make sure she is taken care of and has everything the both of them could need."

He started to dig a small whole next to her, breaking the skin of the expensive , perfectly landscaped grass and only finished when the hole was deep enough to fit her.

Carefully he picked her body up with help of the shovel and placed her inside of the little grave. When he started to cover her with the moist soil he heard the tiny sound of a meow. He looked aside and his heart clenched when his eyes landed on a tiny heap of fur.

She had had twins or at least two of them made it out. Travis carefully picked it up, knowing how delicate it was. This one was even smaller than Taylors and he sighed looking at it. he carefully slipped it into the pocked of his shirt, finishing his little funeral before he cut off the buttons that was sewed into the etiquette of his shirt and started to form a little cross on it but one was too few. Before he could decide whether to cut off the lowest or highest button on his shirt another little meow gave him the clue.

He carefully cut off the button sewed onto his chest pocket and finished the top with it. "lets go show you to your new mother" he whispered gently putting the shovel away before heading back inside. Taylor was still sitting on the couch, snuggled into her blanket white cradling the tiny kitten.

"can I keep it?" she asked hopefully and god if he had said no before she would just have changed his mind. He couldn't say no to her and he knew it would come back to bite him in his own ass but what could he do, she was going to be his forever.

"ill do you one better, you get to keep this one too" he said gently kneeling out in front of her and pulling his pocket open to show her the other kitten. He heard the gasp he already knew she'd give him and the delighted expression on her face made his day.

God knew she could never find out how he really found this one so he came up with something else. "found it by the grass where this one was, maybe yours was looking out for mine?" he asked watching Taylors hand glide into his pocket while she scooped out the tiny kitten.

"yeah maybe" she smiled and it was so genuine, so real it made Travis heart skip a beat. The doorbell rang before any other words could be exchanged and Travis got up "stay here , I'll take care of it" . Taylor watched him go, her heart still throbbing.

He had actually gotten the other cat AND allowed her to keep them both. Taylor cuddled the little ones and crawled their heads. She had the perfect names picked out for them already and just hoped Travis would approve.

He came back just a few minutes later, loaded with packets he put down in front of her. He had to walk two more times to get all the things Taylor had asked for. "I sent them a text telling them to double whatever you needed once I spotted the little guy" he said pointing towards the cat.

She smiled and shifted , both kittens clinging to her robe while she watched hm unpack the boxes and observed while he started to put the scratch trees together creating a large connected one and three separate smaller ones for all over the house.

The next thing he unpacked was the formular and he handed Taylor a package. She smiled knowing what he was asking silently and took it, gently carrying the kittens with her to the kitchen , then whipping up the formular like explained in the description and filling it into two tiny bottles. When she came back most packages were unpacked and Travis had set up the tree by the window.

Taylor got back onto the couch, pulled a blanket over her legs to cover up, she was still in her robe after all and set the kittens down in her lap. The little bottles were very warm so she had wrapped them into little towels.

Travis finished the boxes and come to Taylor , crouching down in front of her. "is there anything else you need?" he asked and unlike earlier his voice was gentle, kind.

Taylor smiled softly and nodded ,patting the couch next to her. Slightly hesitant he moved and sat down next to her. Carefully Taylor laid the kitten he hand found back into his hand an handed him the little bottle. She shifted towards them , pulling her legs towards herself.

"okay so this his Benjamin" she nodded towards the kitten she held "and this is Button, since your button is missing." She said it so matter of factly Travis couldn't help but grin. "honored to get to meet the two of you"

Taylor grinned back. "okay so you just hold the bottle like that and Button should latch on -yes just like that! Buttons a champ already" she explained while showing and instructing him how to feed the little kitten in his arms.

She did the same and for a minute or two they just fed the cats before she perked up again.

"so you were telling me about your sister and law and... nieces right?"

He nodded a bit surprised. "yeah but you don't have to right now-"

She interrupted him shaking her head gently

"tell me everything"
