The only downside to overseas promotions for you was jet lag. And, in your case, it was a massive con.
While you've always been traveling as a group to different countries, none of the time changes were as big as when you traveled to the US or Europe. Small changes in time zones here and there made little difference for you but you really seemed to be affected more than the other girls whenever you all traveled further afield.
And you'd already tried everything to help yourself fix the issue. But nothing had seemed to work long term. And, with every year, Twice seems to be getting even more popular on an international level which means more time overseas for promotions, tours and other events.
You loved the opportunity to visit places you could only dream of as a child and were forever grateful for everything that came with being in the group but you couldn't help feel frustrated by your lack of sleep. And what made it worse was that you felt as though your exhaustion during the day time was stopping you from doing your best in performances or interviews. Perhaps you were being hard on yourself because nobody had seemed to pick up on it yet, but you sometimes found yourself missing steps in choreography or saying very little in interviews while you fought off your intense exhaustion.
And right now it was the middle of the night in another hotel room and you still couldn't get to sleep. Where were you? Dallas, Houston, Atlanta? You weren't even sure at this stage.
You were sharing a room with Momo this time and she was sound asleep in the other bed for hours by now. But nothing you tried was working. You had spent the last while laying on your side and staring at the empty wall but you just felt restless.
Sighing, you resigned yourself to another sleepless night. You sat up and stretched your arms above your head before deciding that maybe you could try and read a bit of the book you had brought with you in your suitcase. As you planted your feet on the floor, you reached over to flick the switch of your lamp to help you see. Momo appeared to be practically dead to the world so you weren't concerned about waking her up if you switched on your bedside lamp.
The thing about light is that even the dullest rays could be blinding after getting used to the darkness. And so the light that emitted from the lamp dazzled you as you stood up and your vision wasn't all that clear. Which wouldn't have been an issue if you knew that Momo had kicked off her shoes in the space between your beds, directly in the pathway to your suitcase. Your vision was blurry still when you tripped over one of them and fell to the ground with an unexpected thud. You let out a shriek as you fell, completely out of surprise rather than out of pain because nothing seemed to actually be hurt. Except your ego, maybe.
But even if Momo had slept through the lamp being turned on, the noise of your fall had woken her up. Bleary eyed and confused, she craned her head to see you getting to your feet once again.
"Are you okay?" She whispered to you, her voice a bit deeper than usual due to her tiredness. You flinched at the sound, not realizing that you had woken her up and turned to see Momo watching you.
"I'm fine, just tripped," you mumbled as you rooted through your suitcase. "Sorry for waking you up."
"Have you slept yet?" She asked softly and you struggled internally between keeping your problem to yourself or being honest with one of your closest friends.
But you didn't need to say anything, your hesitation was enough for Momo. She reached across to check her phone on the bedside table and gasped.
"Y/N, it's three thirty," she said, concerned.
This was news to you but you couldn't say you weren't overly surprised. You hadn't been paying close attention to the time tonight but it made sense that you were still awake, given your usual sleeping patterns. But the last thing you had wanted to do was to wake Momo and cause her the same problems you had.
"I must've lost track, sorry, I didn't mean to wake you," you mumbled, finding your book and padding back towards your bed. But before you could climb back in, Momo's hand reached out so she could wrap her fingers around your wrist and stop you.
"Let me help."
Despite her tiredness, her voice was full of determination. She had a soft gaze as your eyes locked and, with a tug, she pulled you closer to her bed. Your eyebrows furrowed but she pulled up her covers with her free hand and waited patiently.
"Momo, I don't want to bother you, you can just go back to sleep," you said, even if the idea of joining her in the small bed seemed very enticing. Maybe you just needed someone next to you to help ground you enough you could fall asleep.
"Trust me, it'll help you," Momo replied. "And don't worry about me, you know I could sleep through the end of the world."
You gave a low chuckle and relented, climbing in beside her. It was a tight squeeze given that it was a twin bed but Momo tucked the covers over you before slowly sliding an arm over your side.
"Is this okay?" She asked hesitantly which confused you. All ten of you were known to be quite touchy with one another so cuddling like this wasn't something you would bat an eyelid to. You were comfortable in one another's embrace and found it natural to be that close with one another. So, why was Momo nervous about this?
"Yeah, it feels good, I like it," you hummed back in response. Because it did. It felt like a spell had been cast upon you the moment you lay down. With Momo's arm draped loosely across you, you finally felt your eyelids drooping slightly. You knew you wouldn't sleep right away but in ten or fifteen minutes? You could be out like a light.
You couldn't see but a sleepy grin filled Momo's face. Her eyes had already closed but she used her arm to pull you ever so slightly closer to her.
"I hope you sleep okay now," she whispered to you. "Goodnight, Y/N."
"I will," you whispered back. "Goodnight, Momo. Thank you so much."
Momo's breath had already began to even out and you could feel her chest rising and falling against your back in a steady rhythm as your eyes began to flutter closed. Sleeping in Momo's arms was something you could get used to, you knew that for sure. You just hoped this wouldn't be a one time thing.
