Chapter 12

“Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Velarde! I’m glad I’m able to finally meet you,” the doctor cheerfully greeted them.

Hearing the name that the doctor called her, Hanna glared a little at Shiruo. Hindi naman pinansin ni Shiruo ang tingin na iyon dahil mas natutuwa siya na ang pagkakakilala ng tao sa kanila ay mag-asawa silang dalawa.

“Are you ready?” tanong ng doktor na sabay nilang tinanguhan.

The doctor is a sweet chatterbox so there’s never a dull moment during the check up. Marunong magdala ng usapan ang doktor sa paraan na hindi nahihimasok ang personal nilang mga buhay.

Since it’s their first time there, the doctor asked a lot about Hanna and her last check up with her previous doctor. Sinabi naman nito ang mga payo ni Fatima bago nila sinimulan ang ultrasound.

The doctor put a warm gel on her belly before moving the transducer. Titig na titig doon si Shiruo. Hindi man iyon ang una niyang kita sa ultrasound ay nasasabik pa rin siya sa tuwing makikita ang namumuong bata sa sinapupunan ni Hanna.

“Your baby is healthy. And by the looks of it, bigger too!” The excitement in the doctor’s voice couldn’t be contain.

Even Shiruo shouted inwardly while seeing the developing fetus. Una roon ang ulo ng bata na siyang kitang-kita sa monitor.

“We can get a copy of the ultrasound, right? I’m making an album for the baby,” Shiruo asked. He even took out his camera to capture a photo of them in the room.

Wala namang kaso sa doktora ang pagkuha niya ng litrato. Mas natutuwa pa siya na may kagaya ni Shiruo na hands-on talaga sa pag-aalaga ng buntis.

By far, Shiruo is the only man she’s proud of, doing those wonderful things to his wife.

“I’ll be expecting you again in two weeks time. Your baby is about the size of a plum but like I said, medyo malaki siya kompara sa ibang fetus na namumuo. Hindi na rin nakapagtataka kasi pareho naman kayong matangkad at may lahi pa!”

The doctor is in bliss that she gets to have a patient like Hanna. Alagang-alaga kasi hindi tulad nang ilan niyang mga pasyente na makukulit. Like any other normal first time parent, she’s interested to know what the baby would be.

“Ah, doc? Malalaman na po ba namin ang gender ni baby?” tanong naman ni Hanna.

“Well, usually we advice to take a look in twenty weeks para mas visible. We can determine now but we’re not too sure.”

Shiruo and Hanna both looked at each other and smiled. Kahit ano pa ang gender ng sanggol ay mamahalin pa rin nila ito ng buo. But in Shiruo’s mind, he is so sure that the baby will be a boy.

However, just in case, all the baby stuff he bought are in white color for a gender neutral vibes.

After the check up, Shiruo took Hanna in a fine dining. Sa isang Chinese restaurant ulit sila kumain dahil sa paglilihi ni Hanna sa siopao.

Lampas na sa buwan ang paglilihi ni Hanna ngunit nasabi naman ng doktor sa kaniya na maaari pa siyang maglihi hanggang ika-pitong buwan o higit pa rito.

“Papasok ka na ba sa trabaho pagkatapos nito?” Hanna sips on her drink after eating a whole bunch of dumplings.

“Yeah, I have a meeting with Tito Jaime regarding the renewal of our contract. He’s really in it after our accidental meet up in the parking lot. I guess knowing that we are going to have a baby changed his mind. He does have a soft spot for babies and toddlers. Suwerte ko talaga kayo ni Baby Shin.”
