She stares at the calendar on her phone, it's amazing that it's been almost twenty years to the day. It was the night her world was shattered, from that night on all she did was run.
She tried to escape the pain, to put as much distance as she could between them and her, she couldn't bare the look in her little boy's eyes or those of her husband.
Only things didn't get better, her grief was like a sink hole swallowing whatever lay before it. As the days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years she gave up the notion of going home.
Her absence was now their normal, and she couldn't bring herself to disrupt them yet again.
She was devastated when she learned he remarried, that another woman would now raise her son.
It was purely luck when she stumbled upon an old friend from Chicago, dumb luck.
She couldn't help herself, she needed to know how her son was, and if he was okay.
