Hanni grew closer to her fifth period class: Music. Her teacher would be Mrs. Choi. She was definitely excited for this class since music was her favorite subject. She loved all kinds of music, with genres varying from hip-hop, pop/pop rock bands, K-POP, and her absolute favorite, RnB. Not to mention she knew how to play three instruments; but what she loved about music the most was singing. She could sing for days, and her mom always complained how Hanni could sing her head off if that were possible at all.
She entered the music room, noticing just a few people sitting on the choir risers. In the middle of the room sat a grand piano, in a nice shiny, black color, and a little stage that she assumed their teacher would be standing on. Hanni glanced at the walls, looking at how many medals and banners were hanging up. Apparently, this school had a great choir and marching band.
Finding a spot on the risers, Hanni took a seat on the edge, a little further away from the few people who happened to get there before she did. Class would be starting in about two minutes, and people began entering the classroom and filling up the risers.
"Good afternoon, everyone!" The teacher stood on the little stage Hanni noticed minutes before class began. "I'm excited to hear everyone's piece they've been practicing."
Hanni looked around to see everyone holding an instrument case or a piece of sheet music. She gulped, hoping she wouldn't have to participate since she had just got here.
"We'll be going in order by last na-" Just as the teacher was talking, the door swung open causing everyone to look in that direction. "Thank you for joining us, Mr. Park, even though you are late to my class."
As Hanni looked up, she saw the exact person she was hoping not to run into any longer walk through the door. Jay made his way towards the riser, holding his guitar. He looked at his feet, trying not to make eye contact with anyone, as he sat on the opposite end of the risers from her.
"As I was saying, we'll be doing performances today! Other than that, we have a new transfer student joining our class today." Mrs. Choi scoped the room, finding Hanni on the left side of the risers. "Hanni!"
Hanni stood up quickly, giving a little wave and bowed to the other students. "Hi, I'm Hanni."
Everyone said hello or waved back at her, making her feel relieved. She couldn't help but glance at Jay, who quickly looked away once their eyes connected, acting as if he wasn't just looking at her.
"I expect that you'll all make Hanni feel welcome at our school and in our advanced music class... now let's get started." Mrs. Choi stepped off the little stage as she called the first student up.
"Advanced?" Hanni whispered to herself confused.
Hanni was still unsure if she would have to give a performance like the rest of the class. She kept waiting to ask Mrs. Choi if she would get a free pass since she was new, but was unable to since Mrs. Choi would call the next student up immediately. Out of the twenty-seven students in the classroom, they were already half-way through.
