After a long, eventful practice, they made some major adjustments to their performance. Initially, all three of them had their own singing parts with Jay playing his guitar, but after discussing changes that could be made to secure the winning spot, Jungwon offered to play the drums. The song contained drums and he knew that if they were going for first place, he was willing to learn for the sake of winning the competition and beating Sunghoon and his friends. He had played the drums here and there for fun, but proposed the idea that the song would be better with drums. After incorporating it into their performance, they knew this was the change they needed.
Jay returned home from band practice at Jungwon's that Friday afternoon and took a seat on the couch in the living room. He tossed his backpack on the couch and threw his legs onto the coffee table, noticing a piece of paper right underneath his foot. On the coffee table was a note from his dad which read the following:
'Jay, please let me know when you'll be bringing Hanni over to the company building so I can set it up. I'll be in meetings all day today, but email me and I'll respond when I get the chance.'
After reading the message his dad left for him, he pulled out his phone. He didn't know whether or not he should call Hanni or text her. The last time he texted her was the day he took her out to the waterfront. He hated to admit it but he was scared that she would be bothered if he messaged her. When it came down to wanting to text her, he overthought it too much. There were countless times this past week where he would start typing up a message just to erase it completely. So many questions went through his head; what if she didn't reply? What if she responded with one-worded texts? What if she had her read receipts on and left him on seen?
He was a nervous-wreck when it came to talking to her in person... there was no way it would be any different talking to her over the phone.
His dad was very stern when it came to setting up meetings and being on time; although this was technically not a meeting, he knew his dad would treat it like one.
Finally, he clicked the call button next to her name.
Jay stood up and began to pace back and forth as the phone rang. A part of him wanted to hang up once the second ring began, but he knew he would regret it if he did. He wanted to talk to Hanni but he couldn't help how nervous he was.
"Hello?" Hanni answered.
"Hey, Hanni." He cleared his throat and quickly sat down.
"Jay, what a surprise... what's up?"
He smiled to himself upon hearing her voice.
"My dad was wondering what day you wanted to tour the company building? He wants to set up a date so he can keep his meetings light that day." Jay started to bite his nails, feeling on edge just speaking to her.
"Oh... how about tomorrow?" She responded, catching him a little off guard.
"Tomorrow? Sure, I'll let him know."
"Alright, what time sounds good with you?"
"We can do three-ish? I'll pick you up." Jay tried stopping his leg from shaking, but to no avail, his leg shook through the whole conversation. As if right on cue, his mom walked through the front door. Great timing.
"Sounds good to me." She replied. He could hear her laugh a bit.
"Cool, I'll see you tomorrow then."
Just as they hung up, his mom plopped down on the couch next to him with a huge smile on her face. He just knew she was enjoying what she had just witnessed.
