CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Warlocks. Help.
"What the hell?" Johnny asked aloud as he shook images of a dark ritual room from his mind. The whisper faded along with the image.
"What?" Danny asked in confusion. "What's wrong?"
"I swear I just heard Aideen," Johnny replied.
"Heard her saying what?" Danny asked.
"Something about warlocks, and needing help, I think."
"Well that can't be a good thing."
"Thank you for stating the obvious, Danny." Johnny shook his head. "Maybe I should call Clarissa and see if she knows where her daughter is."
Suddenly, the telephone rang. "Clarissa?" Danny answered.
"Wait a second, you're not usually the precog in the office," Clarissa said. "Where's Johnny?"
"Hang on. I'll put you on speaker," Danny said. "I want to hear this, too."
"Nosey," Clarissa teased him, but she did not protest more than that.
"What's going on, Clarissa?" Johnny asked.
"Deenie's missing," Clarissa replied. "The Silver Society is under the impression that this is more than just her runaway habit. Arnie even got pulled to her briefly, but only because he nearly died."
"What happened?" Danny asked.
"Jesse was so worked up, he attacked Alex. Arnie got in the way, and Jesse changed form and mauled him. Thankfully, he survived."
"Crap. Is Arnie furry now?"
"Surprisingly, no."
"That was lucky. Jesse must feel terrible."
"He does, but it's not his fault. Anyway, Arnie said that Aideen told him she's not sure where she is, but she's with warlocks."
"Well, I guess I did hear her, then," Johnny said.
"You heard her, too? I can't even hear her. Hell, I can't feel her at this point. All I picked up is that she's still alive, and I barely sensed that much. Courtney's a mess because she can't make sense of the little bit she's picking up through their twin bond. Alex said the warlocks seem to be blocking her from everyone, and Arnie only heard her because he was dying. How did you hear her?"
"Maybe they didn't think to block anyone except her closest friends and family? I don't know," Johnny admitted. "I also saw the room where they have her. It's a large ritual room, but I've never seen it before."
"What are...?" Choking on the horrific ideas forming in her mind at the unasked question, Clarissa took a deep breath and tried again. "What are they doing to her?" She forced herself to ask.
"I don't know. She's hurt pretty badly from what I sensed. She's scared. It takes a lot to scare Aideen."
"I don't understand why they would kidnap her. The warlocks have been terrified to cross her ever since she went vigilante after Benny..." Clarissa sighed. "Why would they take her now?"
"Well, she hasn't been going after as many warlocks as she did in the beginning. Maybe they're not afraid of her anymore. Of course, that would be a big error in judgment on their part."
"They took her because of Lewis," Danny said bluntly. "It's the only thing that makes sense."
"What are you talking about?" Clarissa asked. "Lewis Ashford? What connection does she have to him? I mean, I know she's always been close to Kevin, and Beth's in the Silver Society, but I didn't think she had much of a connection to Lewis directly aside from the fact that he was her lawyer."
