Before you start any sort of show down, you needed to prioritise the safety of the citizens. Without missing a beat, you summoned the apparition children and Mochi to help you out as you directed citizens to safe exits.
Apparitions flooded the shopping centre, translucent silhouettes turning the space into a blurry silver mess. You trusted Sara and Jade to handle the exorcism. Actually, speaking of Sara, you were able to spot the brunette in the distance. It wasn't long before she noticed you as well.
"(Y/n)! Are you okay?"
You gave her a thumbs up. "I'm alive and breathing!"
When you managed to rejoin her, there was no time for any sighs of relief as a sudden wave of apparitions rushed towards you two. Sara immediately stepped in front of you, her hands moving in practised precision as she swiftly exorcised the apparitions. You didn't fail to notice the subtle wince on her expression.
"Are you okay?"
"Hm? Oh, yeah! Of course." Sara's curtain bangs fell over her eyes, their initial bounciness that she put so much effort into gone just like that. With a sigh, she clipped them to the side. "I am an experienced exorcist, after all."
You nodded. "I just noticed you wince a little, that's all."
Sara blinked in surprise at your question. "Wince––?"
Before she got a chance to finish her sentence, another storm of apparitions conquered the space. You and Sara nodded to each other. The teamwork was seamless, it was as if you two had worked together for years; you focused on protecting the citizens whilst Sara handled the apparitions.
"It's pretty loud, huh?" Sara said.
Well, loud would be the easiest term to describe the noise level.
A cacophony of voices clamoured in desperation and panic, as if yelling until your throat gave out would somehow turn someone into full-fledged exorcists. And thanks to the hundreds of apparitions, powerful gusts of winds vanquished the space; whispers and hushed screeches blended with the commotion.
However, you knew this wasn't what Sara was referring to.
"Does it have to do with your ability?"
Sara blinked in surprise. "My ability?"
"Your ability has to do with sound, so I thought it had to do something with that."
Thank god the chaotic nature of the mall covered up parts of your mediocre acting.
"You're really sharp, huh?" Sara mumbled. "You're right. Whenever I use my ability to exorcise apparitions, the shrieks they make echo in my head."
The same thing happens with Elias as well. The more apparitions exorcised, the louder the sound. It was why Elias and Sara had such good tolerance against the apparition's screams during the first half of the SF trial.
Though... Whilst Sara found it unpleasant, like any normal person, Elias found it––
Your train of thought was cut short when you heard a sharp cry from behind you. Turning around, your eyes widened to see that a large wall of ice had barricaded the main entrance. Your eyes darted around to see that ice had blocked off all the entrances. Well, wasn't that just fun.
In the original game, Amias would encounter the shopping covered with ice from the outside. After getting in with Finn, the two reunite with Sara and Jade. So, yes. You knew this was going to happen. You spent countless hours thinking of ways to prevent this event, but realised that it was better to just let it happen. This was Shen's official 'debut' into the Anomalous society. At this point, he had no intentions to hurt anyone.
