The sun blazed down over Beach City, casting a warm glow through the windows of the cozy Beach House. Inside, the familiar sounds of activity filled the air. Y/n was busy in the kitchen, stirring something delicious on the stove, while Steven dug through a laundry pile in the corner, muttering to himself.

"Where are you? Tsk tsk tsk. You're a mess, Steven," he grumbled, clearly frustrated with his search for his missing pants.

Y/n glanced over, her expression a mixture of amusement and exasperation. "I told you to clean your side of the room," she said, raising an eyebrow.

Steven paused, opening his mouth to protest, but before he could respond, Pearl burst into the kitchen, her face stricken with urgency. In her hands, she held a bubble containing several glowing gem shards, her eyes darting around as she searched for something.

"I know I had eight..." Pearl muttered, her voice tinged with panic. "Hey, Steven, Y/n, have you seen a gem shard anywhere? It's very important."

Y/n, still focused on the stove, shook her head. "Sorry, Pearl. Haven't seen it."

Steven, meanwhile, hadn't quite registered what Pearl was saying. He was still knee-deep in his search for pants. "No, but have you seen my pants?" he called out from the corner. He emerged holding up his shirt and underwear, revealing the current state of his attire. "They're also very important!"

Y/n chuckled, rolling her eyes. "It's not THAT important, Steven."

Pearl, growing increasingly frantic, tried to explain, her tone growing more and more serious. "I'm serious, Steven. These shards have a powerful partial consciousness. Gems have used them throughout history to create—"

Steven's mind began to wander, and he absentmindedly continued searching for his pants while Pearl rambled on. Under the bed! No, wait, I looked there already... And then Pearl walked in... His internal thoughts were spiraling.

Unperturbed, Pearl carried on in the background, oblivious to Steven's distraction. "—semi-sentient drone soldiers with the capacity to follow basic orders. Gems once created an army of these drones, but found their obedience waned as the shards overdeveloped inside their uniforms and turned on their commanders. You see, any shard imprinted by any sort of container—"

Steven's attention drifted even further. Oh jeez, I can't just start listening now, I'd be totally lost... He sighed to himself, still digging through the pile of laundry. Just like my pants...

Pearl, still oblivious to Steven's mental escape, wrapped up her explanation. "—could become a monster. That's why it's very, very important it's kept away from any kind of garment."

Y/n, who had been paying attention to Pearl's explanation, nodded in understanding. "Got it, Pearl," she said, her tone reassuring.

Suddenly, a pair of pants appeared to be running past Steven, Y/n, and Pearl in the background, the fabric flailing in the air as if it were alive.

Pearl looked at the scene in confusion. "If you see it, bring it to me, right away. I'm going to check in town."

Pearl hurried out the front door, her figure fading into the distance. Steven, who had been somewhat inattentive, shouted after her. "For my pants? ...I guess I'll keep looking here."

Y/n, noticing the moving pants, shouted at Steven. "Steven, your pants are moving behind you!!"

Steven turned around just in time to see the pants wriggling across the floor like they had a mind of their own. "That's unusual!" he exclaimed, quickly jumping to his feet and chasing after them. "Come on, we used to be friends! We used to go everywhere together!" He leaped onto the pants and wrestled with them, finally pulling them on with a triumphant grin. "Gotcha now, pants! I wear the pants in this relationship!"
