CHAPTER TWO

After hesitantly following Klaus around like a bunch of lost puppies, we came across a hotel building. "The Hotel Obsidian." Despite there being two doors, we stupidly decided to go through the same one.

"Oh. Okay. Honestly?" Allison spoke. "We don't all need to be squeezed..."

"There were two entrances, by the way." Five spoke.

"Then why didn't you take the second one, genius?" I retorted.

"Oh, Hotel Obsidian. I missed you, you slutty old dame." Klaus exclaimed, feeling right at home. How ironic. "Absorb her, absorb her into your bosom. You know, 'cause back in her heyday, she played host to world leaders. Roosevelt, Gandhi, Stalin, Gorbachev, Castro, King Olaf of Norway, one of the Kim Jongs, Tito, Dalai Lama, Elvis. And not one but two Kardashians, allegedly."

"I gotta make a call," Allison announced, heading towards the landline.

"Nowadays, she's just a flophouse, a party house for those of us not looking to be judged by society's rules and norms." Klaus continued.

"You mean, a place to hide?"

"Exactly! It's perfect! And the best part of it is, she's gonna look after us, no questions asked." Klaus gestured us to follow him.

"I may have questions." Diego chided.

"Yeah, me too."

"Me three," I added.

"This place is weird." Vanya stated.

We headed towards the reception desk. Did we even have money to afford a room? I most certainly didn't.

"Chet! Mon frère!" Klaus gasped after ringing the bell. "It's so great to see you. I'd like my usual suite, por favor."

"I'd never seen you before," the receptionist replied.

"See? Told you. Discreet."

"Please stop scaring my dog," Diego and Luther were both staring down the tiny dog.

"We need some rooms, please." Vanya requested.

"Super," Chet replied, "and how will we be paying today?" Chet grabbed a sign and placed it in front of us, reading 'Cash Up Front.'

We all looked among each other, uncertain on how we would pay. "Fine. Empty your pockets," Luther stated among us. "Condom? Put the knife away!"

"Can't exchange those for cash." Klaus retorted. Vanya had some candies while Five had what seemed to be pills in his hands.

"I got absolutely nothing." I whispered to Vanya.

"I'll give you two rooms for the ring," Chet pointed to the ring hanging by a chain on my neck.

Luther, Diego, Five, and Klaus all looked at me expectantly. As if they wanted me to give my ring for the rooms. It wasn't even my ring, it was Ben's. I kept it after he died. They were crazy if they thought I was going to hand it over for a room. I would rather sleep outside on the pavement. "No," I spoke firmly.

"Come on, Sadie." Diego replied.

"Does anyone have anything else?" Vanya asked.

"Okay," Luther messed around with something on his wrist, revealing a watch. "What does this get us?" He handed it to Chet, hoping he would accept it.

Chet examined the watch before grabbing two room keys from the wall behind him. "Two rooms," placing the keys on the desk. "Mazel tov."

"Awesome."

"All right." Klaus grabbed one of the keys.

"Well, let's Brady Bunch this bitch," Allison had returned from her phone call to Claire, grabbing the second key.

We began walking towards our rooms before Five spoke up. "Meet back in the bar in two hours so we can make a plan."

Diego ran up in front of the group, "I have a plan. We attack the Sparrows, and we take back our house, and then we punch Dad a bit until he admits that we're better and he loves us more. Boom! Done! We're wasting time!"

"Relax. Don't sweat it, man." Klaus attempted to ease him. "Those shit birds are staying put for a while. I bet they're as wiped as we are."

"Really?"

"Yeah. I mean, kicking our asses looked exhausting."

Allison, Vanya, and I eventually found our room. It was a medium-sized room with three beds, some mirrors, and a sofa. It was cozy enough considering we got it for a watch.

"It's not too small," Vanya spoke after clearing her throat. "It's definitely ugly."

"I wonder who designed these rooms." I wondered aloud.

"Someone blind." Allison retorted, heading towards her chosen bed. We all flopped on our own individual beds, letting a sigh of relief. The pain in my body was unbearable despite not getting beat up as badly as the rest of my siblings. "Last night, I was sleeping in my own bed next to my amazing husband."

"I kissed Sissy goodbye a few hours ago. Give or take 50 years."

"I didn't even get to say goodbye to my gang." I grumbled. While I was stuck in the 1960s for four years, I ended up becoming the leader of a gang, which is how I originally found Luther. We had ties with Jack Ruby. Even though I didn't particularly get along with the gang members, despite being on the top, I still would have liked to say goodbye. Would've given them a reason to celebrate.

"I'm glad you finally found somebody that treated you right." Allison spoke to Vanya.

"She saw me for who I really am. I'm not ready to give that up."

"I feel the same about Ray. We better not have left them just to die in some superhero turf war."

"You need to go home, see Claire." I spoke, adding into the conversation.

Allison hesitated before sitting up, facing Vanya and I. "What if Diego's right and the Sparrows attack?"

"Then Vanya hits them with an explosion."

"We fought the entire Commission." Vanya spoke, ignoring my statement. "I mean, we can handle, what? Seven jerks in uniforms? They just caught us off guard."

"Yeah."

"You should go to the airport, get back to your real life. I would if I could," Vanya confessed.

"I can run you there, so you don't have to wait for a taxi." I offered. I could transport a person with me, but I can't go as fast as I usually do.

Allison stood up, extending her arms out for the two of us. We quickly entered her hug, having a small group hug. "Thank you," Allison mumbled, loud enough for us to hear. "You guys are the best sisters." Allison left the room, probably going to clean her face from her bloody nose.

About twenty minutes later, Allison had returned from the bathroom in fresh clothes, her face clean from blood, and her hair was back to its natural curls than the blowout she had. "You don't mind running me there?" She asked, referencing my proposal from our previous conversation.

"Not at all, I can get you there in, like, five minutes. Let's go," I responded, heading out the door with her following shortly after. We had made it outside the hotel, it was still daylight. I placed my left hand on the back of her head while I grabbed her right hand with my own. "I would close your eyes for this." I spoke. Allison nodded before closing her eyes, both of us running, my speed taking us to the airport within minutes. Without her with me, I could've gotten us there in seconds, but I'll take what we can get. I saw the familiar airport building in the distance, slowly coming to a stop, avoiding any whiplash for Allison, and to avoid her puking from it. "We're here," I announced, letting go of Allison.

"Thank you," she gave me a quick hug before running into the airport to catch the next flight out to California.
