CHAPTER THIRTEEN

It was the day after, none of us really slept as the majority of the world had been destroyed. What was left of earth was floating rubble, with Hotel Obsidian perched on top.

"So, how is it that we're still here, but the whole of the universe is going down the cosmic shitter?" Allison rhetorically asked.

"Maybe we're the last to get flushed," Viktor answered.

"Wasn't talking to you."

"Hey, has anyone seen Klaus?" Luther asked from next to Sloane.

"Oh my god, do you think he got blitzed?" I exclaimed from my spot on the railing.

"Or dad?" Sloane added.

"They'll be here," Diego spoke, trying to calm our nerves.

"Really? Did they...hit traffic?" Ben spoke as he walked in, sarcasm laced into his words. "Look, people, we're alive because we're special, right? We're the only ones who can save the universe."

"Uh, question." Allison raised her finger.

"Yes." Ben begrudgingly answered.

"Didn't we just try that and fail miserably?"

"Yeah, it's because his plan was stupid." Diego spoke, Allison understanding his words. "I got a better one."

"'Course you do," Ben mumbled.

"A better one or a stupid one?" I asked, Diego shooting me a stare.

"We go with the large hard-on particle accelerator. You guys do some science, and..." Diego clicked his tongue, "...we launch the Kugelblitz into outer space. Didn't think I knew that, did ya? It's in Switzerland."

"It's 'hadron,' not hard-on, you moron!" Ben rebutted.

"Oi! At least he's trying, you shitty little squid. What have you contributed?" Lila came to Diego's defense.

"Actually, he did blow up half his family." Diego replied.

"Oh, you wanna talk about family problems?" Ben started, walking towards Diego. "You know what should have blown up is your face on that neck!"

"I wish I had a cake to hit you with it in your face!" Diego argued back. The two then began arguing in Korean and Spanish, not really paying attention to what the two were pointlessly arguing about.

"Hey!" Five bellowed, "you guys done? The universe is disappearing outside. So you can keep rearranging the deck chairs of the Titanic if it makes you feel better. But the fact remains that we are too late." Ben and Diego scoffed, walking away from each other.

"Five, come on." Luther spoke.

"It's over, Luther. We failed." He replied.

"Come on. It can't be over over." Viktor added in.

"There's literally only space outside. I think it's over." I chimed.

"Yeah, come on, Five. We gotta figure this out, man." Diego said.

"Okay. How about we take a step back? Look at the big picture here. Most of us have spent the last 28 days trying to stop the world from ending. What exactly have we accomplished?" Five spoke to everyone in the room, making his point clear.

"Well, we made some friends along the way." Luther answered.

"Incorrect!" Five points at Luther. "You know what we've done? Nothing. We made things worse every single time."
