Hu Tao x (male)ghost reader
TW: MENTIONS OF SUICIDE!! DO NOT READ IF UNCOMFORTABLE OR EASILY TRIGGERED!!
I've been dead for about three years. I moved to Liyue about two years ago. Now you're probably wondering, "how on earth can a dead person move to a new place?". Well, the answer is pretty simple. When I died my spirit didn't move on to the next life. I was killed by an abyss mage who wanted to torture me for as long as possible, so he cursed my soul to never depart.
Now I can't say it's all that bad being dead. I've made many friends over the two years. It seems there is much more to talk about when you're a floating ghost. I grew close to one friend in particular. She's pretty much my best(kinda crazy) friend, Hu Tao. When I say our friendship is a little bit of a rollercoaster I mean it in the best way possible. She's the 77th Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor which is pretty ironic since I'm dead.
I sighed and stared out over Wangsheng Parlor. Sitting here always helped clear my head.
"Whatcha doing up here, delightful customer?"
I snorted, "Just rethinking life decisions."
The brunette swiftly placed herself beside me and leaned against her hand. "That's kind of hard to do since you're dead."
"Thanks," I said sarcastically looking over my shoulder at her.
"Just stating truth," Hu Tao says, glancing at me for a moment before turning back to the sunset.
"You also should know that it's not nice to hide things from people." At her words my eyes widened. I stared at her shocked, before quickly recomposing myself.
"Hide? When have I ever hid something from you Hu Tao? I've told you everything about me." I turned to look at her, just to find her already staring at me.
"You're also not acting like yourself. You're never this serious. Who are you and what have you done with Hu Tao?" I questioned jokingly, trying to get her to loosen up a bit but getting no reaction except her becoming more serious.
"You've been having nightmares. I noticed that you have bags under your eyes lately. And as one of your best friends and delightful employer~" She called out and I turned away from her stare.
I scratched the back of my neck and reluctantly admitted the problem. "Why am I here? I mean why did I specifically become a ghost, spirit or whatever you want to call it. What's so special about me?" I drew my legs close to my chest and sighed, "Sometimes I wish I could just die again and leave this place-"
"Don't say that."
My eyes snapped over to the brunette, "What?"
"I said 'Don't say that'," she repeated and held my gaze. "Everything about you is special. You're kind, tough, and want justice for everyone done wrong. So don't say that about yourself."
My eyes widened slightly. I did not expect that to come out of her mouth.
"Besides~ you bring customers in. It would stink if you left."
Ah, there it is.
A laugh left my throat, "Yeah. I'll keep that in mind." I stood to leave but a hand grabbed at my arm. Well...tried to anyway, Hu Tao's hand kind of just fazed through but I got the gist. "Yeah?" I tilted my head slightly.
"I am serious though," Hu Tao stated quite seriously, "You would be missed by everyone if you left...I would miss you.."
My jaw dropped at her statement yet before I could answer she swiftly left. A smile pulled at my lips as I teleported back inside.
