Silver's schedule was not a glamorous one to have on most Friday afternoons. He's already sat through five meetings, went on a conference call, and had to do double-shift patrols. When he returns to his office, he groans and sits in his chair. He glances over at the portrait of him and Blaze. The regret from that night still haunts him. He shakes his head and pushes the picture face down. He begins typing on his computer right as Sonic knocks on his door. "Yoo! Silv! You got a minute?" he questioned excitedly. Silver sighs and nods his head. "Sure, what do you have for me?"
The tone of his voice didn't scare him away. Sonic jumps onto his desk and slides to face him. He pushes a folder in front of him. "Check it out. Three villains and five vigilantes were caught in the same week. I don't know about you, but I'd call that a win! I'll admit, I wasn't sure about being under your command, but your strategies have really led to killer success." he smiles, brushing up his quills. Silver nods casually and pushes it back. "That's really great Sonic. I'm glad that the turnout was good." Sonic raises an eyebrow seeing that Silver barely acknowledged the report.
"Alright, what's wrong?" Sonic questioned, crossing his arms and giving him a look. This made Silver realize that he knew something was off. Of course, Silver tries to brush it off. "Nothing! It's nothing. I'm just... really tired lately." he sighed, looking at his computer screen. Noticing the portrait, Sonic barely lifts it. "Why's the picture face down?" he asks calmly, barely picking it up. Silver gets slightly defensive and snatches it. "Stop touching stuff." he snapped, gently looking down at it.
Glancing over, Sonic realized that the picture was Blaze. He looks at Silver worriedly. "Silver... look man I know you miss her but... You should move on. I know it's hard but she cheated. That's why you dumped her, right?" Sonic reassured him. Silver shakes his head. "No, that's just it. I'm not sure if she did anymore..." he says in a hushed whisper. Sonic gives him a bewildered look. "What?!" he exclaimed. "Look, I know that it's crazy but... I'm not sure if she did... and... I feel like an idiot!" he cried, putting his head on his desk. Rolling his eyes, Sonic moves to pull up a chair next to him.
"I understand- okay no, I really don't. But why now? You've been broken up for a while now. I'm just saying that you need to talk to her if you want to make things better."
"Dude she doesn't want to talk to me. Blaze blocked my number, and my social media, and even made sure that she couldn't see me again by switching units!" Silver puts his head down on the table in defeat as he covers his head. Seeing his friend distressed, Sonic rubs his back. "Do you want to talk to her again? If you could?" he asked her. "I do... I really do... But she doesn't. She's made the more than clear. And on top of that, all of her friends just ignore me. They won't tell me anything!" Just then Shadow walks and knocks on the door.
After he composes himself, Silver sighs. "Come in." Shadow walks in holding the folder report. He lifts an eyebrow wondering if he walked in on something. "Uh... is this a bad time?" he questioned, slightly confused. "No, it's not. What's up?" Silver quickly responded, trying to throw off suspicion. Shadow rolls his eyes and lays his report on his desk. "Here's that robbery report from two days back. I thought about emailing it but it's such a hassle dealing with the security checks on that piece of junk. Plus I scanned it so that's it's in our records. Do you need anything else?" Silver opened the folder and it had all the information. But he's not really looking thoroughly at the file. He lays it back down.
"Thanks, Shadow." he huffs. Shadow scoffs and begins to walk away. "Wait!" Silver calls out. Shadow turns around slightly annoyed. "Uh... I'm only asking because you used to work with her... But... You wouldn't happen to know what Blaze is doing now? Or what unit or department she's at?" Hearing his question makes Shadow scoff and then release a slight chuckle that's cold. Silver's ears flatten a bit hearing how his coworker responded. "No. I haven't. And for the record," Shadow turns his head with a sinister look in his eyes. "I hope you don't ever talk to her again." He then slams the door, leaving the two at a loss of what the sudden aggression was about. Silver puts his head in his hands and looks down. "Great. Now even Shadow is pissed at me."
Sonic pats his back. "I'm not trying to dismiss your feelings okay? Because I'm not. But... can you blame them? You hurt Blaze which means you pissed off Rouge and all her friends. And no offense but those photos of Blaze kissing some dude, looked pretty fake. Did you really expect things to go your way?" Sonic replied. Silver shrugged. He knew Sonic was right. Even if it did hurt. "I know... I just don't know what to do..."
"Give it time. Who knows, maybe you'll both find each other again. But you can't come off as pushy. Or even desperate. Do you even know who sent the photos?"
"No... I feel like an idiot because all it had was my address and name. But I don't really have anyone who would do something like this to either of us..." Silver whined. Sonic shakes his head. "I'm gonna keep saying this because I mean, c'mon! You should've talked to Blaze or somebody else! Or at least did a deeper dive before you just accused her of all these lies and stuff! I'm your friend. I wanna be there for you. But... I'm not scared to tell you when you're wrong. And you were. There were so many things you could've done to handle the situation differently. And if she did cheat... then I'm sorry, okay? That sucks. I wouldn't want that for you or any of my close friends. Except for the fact that you didn't even hear her out."
Silver nods. "Yeah, I know. Trust me I do. I just... I don't know what to do to make it right. I can't even get word of where she is or where she's working! I haven't seen her in the public spotlight in forever! Blaze is a popular hero! It just doesn't make sense." Tapping his chin, Sonic then comes up with an idea. "Tell you what, I'll make a deal. My best friend is really good at computers and private investigations. I'll see what he can dig up. If it's not a lot, then you need to either work up the courage to talk to her or drop it. If there is something to be concerned about, which I doubt, then I'll let you know. Just... don't be so worked up about this okay? It'll get better."
The words he hears make Silver smile. He doesn't feel a whole lot better, but it's something. He nods, shaking his hand. "Alright, I appreciate it. I do."
Seeing that there wasn't much else they could do, Sonic stood up and headed toward the door. "Don't be so far down in the dumps, okay? I'll check in with you later. I've got patrol duty next. Toodles!" As Sonic walks away, Silver looks down at the only portrait of Blaze he has left. Gently caressing the frame, he sets it down. He looks up at the ceiling wondering what to do.
