"Hi, what can I get you?"
"Can I get a large black coffee? Two scoops of sugar. No cream." The woman smiled at me as I placed her order in the computer. I grabbed her change from the register, then sent her to the end of the counter.
I sighed as I rolled my neck then looked around the coffee shop. I leaned on the counter then stared at nothing as I felt extremely tired all over my body. I knew that I should have gone to bed earlier last night, but my dumbass self wouldn't listen.
My job isn't hard, it's just the hours that make it hard. I stand behind a counter all day and take orders, but waking up at five in the morning, then getting home around two in the afternoon was something that took a toll on me.
Especially when I don't sleep the night before.
My summer was supposed to be fun, but since I need money, I'm required to work.
I started working here in my sophomore year in high school. I don't have a problem with it here, but sometimes the hours are stupid. When I was still in school, my hours were a little different, and I was fine with that, but since I graduated, I'm forced to work more hours.
But at least I'm making my own money, so I'm not complaining much about it.
The pay is ok.
As more customers came in, I took their orders then stood around as the time was slowly creeping by. I sighed before stretching my arms over my head, then looking around at everyone.
This coffee shop was nice, and it was busy for the most part. It had a cool vibe to it, which made everyone enjoy staying here to drink coffee, chat with other people or do work from the free Wi-Fi.
As I stood there, waiting for more customers, I heard a voice then looked over to see Danny walking towards the counter. I smiled as he stopped in front of me, then he flashed me a smile that made my heart skip a beat.
"Hey, beautiful."
"Hi." I smiled.
"Can I get a large? My usual." He grabbed his wallet as I placed his order in the computer. I saw him swipe his card in the machine, then I gave him the receipt. "When is your break?"
"My lunch break isn't until eleven-thirty." I looked at the time on my watch. "Which is in two hours." I sighed. I saw him place his wallet back in his back pocket.
"I'll stick around so we can have a small date." He smiled. He walked to the end of the counter, and my eyes followed before looking away.
When my lunch break finally arrived, Danny was still here, and I quickly clocked out for lunch before joining him at the small table. I sighed before leaning back in the chair, then felt my muscles stretch.
"I am so tired." I placed my elbows on the table then saw him looking at me.
"You look tired, babe. Are you hungry? I can go grab us some food." He suggested. I smiled at him before nodding. I decided to stay here since my lunch break is only thirty minutes, but Danny said he was going across the street for food.
Once he left, I sat there on my phone, looking through it before seeing a message from my mom. I opened it to see that she asked what I wanted for dinner tonight, and I responded back to her as Danny arrived back.
"I grabbed you a burger. No ketchup. Extra pickles." He smiles as he placed the bag in front of me.
"Thanks." I smiled before opening the bag, then I grabbed the wrapped burger out. I sighed as I took a bite then wiped my mouth. The drink that was sitting next to the bag on the table, made me smile as I grabbed it to take a sip from it.
