"Your kit is lying," meowed Featherstar, looking at Reedflower with a "you're wasting my time" look in her eye.

"Excuse me?! You sure as heck not be talking to me or my apprentice like that! Just because you are the leader doesn't mean you can treat others that are a smaller rank than you like this!"

Beepaw pinned her ears as the two cats began yowling at each other in rage. Why were they fighting now? She thought her mother would just have a pleasant conversation with Featherstar and get this all handled with. But instead, her mother was practically asking for herself to be exiled from the clan!

Her thoughts lingered back to the idea she had about finding Duskpaw and asking him to help her figure out that strange message from the StarClan cat. Maybe she could sneak out and go find him. Reedflower and Featherstar were too busy yowling their heads off anyways, surely they wouldn't notice?

She glanced behind herself. The entrance of the den was covered with vines, so she couldn't see out much, but she could see several sets of paws right outside of the den. All the noise must've attracted a few cats to come over and see what was going on. But, as far as she knew, there didn't seem to be many. She really didn't want to get caught by a bunch of cats screaming at her for "killing" the WaterClan leader.

Taking a deep breath, she practically leaped around and pelted out of the den... and barreled straight into a hoard of cats. Tumbling backwards, she looked up to see dozens of cats staring down at her, some glaring, some with looks of sympathy, and others straight up confused at what'd just happened.

Her eyes found their way to Hawkclaw's. He was looking at her with a displeased look. All the other cats were murmuring things to one another, things she was sure were about her. Some apprentices shoved their way through the crowd and began to laugh at her mockingly. Filled with embarrassment and shock, she stood shakily to her feet. She turned her head to see her mother poke her head out from behind the vines. But she didn't wait for her mother to come and save her. Instead, she pushed her way past all the laughing apprentices, all of the murmuring cats, and past her displeased mentor and straight out of the camp entrance. Her entire reputation had been ruined all because of some dirty lie Hawkclaw had told.

...

Beepaw had no clue about where she even was. All she remembered was running away from that horrible scene, her ears ringing, the moment replaying over and over again in her head. Tears were practically flooding from her face, she still wasn't even sure of what had happened there had even been true.

There was no way she was ever going back there again. Never ever, ever. Not when everyone was awaiting for her return. She knew if she didn't, they'd think she was too scared to return and face them, but if she did... she was sure she would have a horrible punishment, if not by Featherstar, then certainly by Hawkclaw.

She knew her mother would be staying up all night and day waiting for her to come back. She'd probably never even sleep until she found Beepaw. But her mother was only one cat. Only one cat was there in that clan standing up for her. She'll be fine without me, thought Beepaw.

"That thing that StarClan cat told me was mouse-brained! I'm not going to save the clans! I'm not going to bring peace to the clans! I'm just a mouse-brained apprentice with a mouse-brained life. I have no importance in this fox-hearted world!" doves flew away from the clearing at the sound of Beepaw yowling.

Practically having a mental breakdown, Beepaw collapsed in bush, thorns prickling her pelt. But she didn't care. She didn't care at all! As far as she cared, the world could burn.
