I slowly step around the singed rubble littering the ground. Pieces of sheet metal and insulation pipes smoke in the burnt crater created by the impact. I step over a ribcage stained black from the fire and ash over to Bellamy. "It's a sad sight out here." I glance around the crash site then at Bellamy.
He sighs and adjusts his gun on his shoulder before shouting to the rest of the teens. "Stay sharp. Grounder retaliation for what happened on the bridge is coming, just a matter of when."
"Can you blame them?" Finn asks.
Bellamy takes a step towards Finn. "No. I blame you."
"Maybe if you didn't bring guns-"
Raven cuts Finn off. "If we didn't bring guns, we all would've been killed."
I watch Raven and Finn exchange tense looks before Bellamy speaks up again. "Why they're coming doesn't matter anymore. It's our job to be ready when they do. We're on our own now."
We all avoid each other's eyes and go back to looking around the rubble. When Raven shouts. "Clarke, stop!" Raven rushes over and Finn, Bellamy, and I follow behind, stopping just a few feet behind her.
"Rocket fuel?" Clarke asks.
"Hydrazine. Highly unstable in its non-solid form. If this stuff meets fire, we're all pink mist." Raven says as she dips a rock in the red puddle on the ground. She stands up and faces a fire off further in the crash site. "Fire in the hole!" She shouts and chucks the rock over into the fire.
The rock hits the fire and a small explosion rings out. A cloud of fire and smoke rises from the area. "Holy shit." I mutter.
"We need to clear the area!" Raven shouts over to us.
"Okay, then." Bellamy turns to the rest of the teens in the crater. "We move in formation, no straggling, weapons hot. We gotta get back before dark." Bellamy turns to me and motions toward the rubble all over the ground. "Watch your step."
I carefully make my way out of the crash site and towards the way to camp, following the rest of the group. I step close in line with Bellamy as we travel through the woods. "Do you think she'll be ok?"
Bellamy looks over at me. "Who, Clarke?" He asks.
"Her mom. She was supposed to be on the first drop ship." I say as I step over rocks and shrubs. "Yet she's showing no emotion at all."
"She'll be fine, she's strong." Bellamy says.
I sigh.
Bellamy looks at me with confusion before someone else pulls his attention away. "Bellamy, we need another man at the rear!" Someone shouts and Bellamy falls back to the voice. I continue to walk through the woods quietly amongst the others.
