I stand next to Clarke and watch as two boys carry a lifeless girl out of the dropship and lay her next to another boy. The other delinquents silently watch, keeping well away from the quarantine zone. I watch Clarke exchange looks with Finn before Bellamy draws all of our attention. "All right. Show is over. Get back to your posts." He shouts to the staring teens. Bellamy approaches the dropship but stops a few feet away, keeping his distance. "You got enough food in there, water?" Bellamy asks us.
I nod. "Yeah. Some medicine might be nice."
Bellamy smiles and looks at his feet. "I'll see what I can do." I smile back and Clarke turns to go back inside. "Octavia, you ok?" He shouts to the dropship.
My smile drops and I look back to see Clarke sharing my expression. We look back at Bellamy to see him walking closer toward the dropship. "Bellamy, wait." I say. "She's not here." Bellamy's face drops in confusion.
Clarke jumps in. "I sent her to see Lincoln." Bellamy looks away. "Look. If there's a cure, he has it. I didn't tell you because I knew you wouldn't let her go."
Bellamy looks at me with anger. "You let this happen?"
"She can handle herself Bellamy." I reply.
Bellamy adjusts the grip on his gun and lowers his voice. He looks between Clarke and me. "If anything happens to her, you and me are gonna have problems." He turns and marches away from the dropship.
"Bellamy." I try to shout but my voice is weak.
He tries to go into a tent, but a boy is sitting in his way. "Out of my way." He says. The boy turns around and even from here I can see the bright red blood streaming from his eyes.
Another teen raises his gun and points it to the boy. "Nobody touch him!" He shouts and the delinquents scramble to get away from him.
Bellamy backs away from the boy and points behind him. "Get to the dropship." The boy is hesitant to move. "Now!" Bellamy shouts and the boy rushes in me and Clarke's direction.
I can see another girl drop to the ground and teens clearing from around her too. The delinquents begin to freak out and those with guns raise them toward the infected. They all push and shove each other as chaos behind to break loose. I can hear Bellamy and Finn shouting, trying to calm everyone down. Their efforts are futile. I can see Clarke stuck in her mind on what to do. "This is what they want." She mumbles.
I look around and spot a gun resting against the dropship entrance. I pick it up and click off the safety, point it to the air, and fire off 3 rounds. The teens all go silent and stop in their tracks as they eye me with confusion and a bit of fear. I step down the ramp of the dropship and lower my gun. "Shut up!" I yell weakly. The delinquents all look at me and wait for my next move.
I look back at Clarke and motion her to come forward. She walks up next to me and speaks to the crowd. "This is exactly what the Grounders want. Don't you see that? They don't have to kill us if we kill each other first-"
An angry teen steps forward and cuts her off, pointing his gun right at me. "They won't have to kill us if we all catch the virus. Get back in the damn dropship!" He shouts.
Bellamy comes from behind the boy and disarms him swiftly and hits him with the butt of his own gun. The boy stumbles to the ground away from Bellamy. The delinquents all stay silent and watch us for our next move. "Not to state the obvious, but your quarantine isn't working." Bellamy comments to Clarke.
When she doesn't answer, I look over to see her sway on her feet. I can hear raven yell "Finn, don't touch her!" before Finn is swooping Clarke off her feet as she falls.
"Hey, let me go. I'm okay." Clarke says out of breath.
"No, you're not." Finn says back.
Clarke looks over at Bellamy and sighs. "Octavia will come back with a cure-"
"There is no cure!" Clarke is cut off by Octavia jogging back into camp. "But the Grounders don't use the sickness to kill!" She shouts to the crowd.
"Really?" Bellamy asks sarcastically. "Tell that to them." He points to the dead bodies on the ground next to the dropship. Bellamy steps closer to Octavia. "I warned you about seeing that grounder again."
"Yeah? Well, I have a warning for you, too." Octavia speaks. "The Grounders are coming..." She shouts. The crowd whispers and murmurs. "...and they're attacking at first light." Octavia walks over to Clarke and Finn. "Come on. I'll help you get Clarke into the dropship."
I hold back the curtain as Finn carries Clarke inside, and follow them in. "What do I have to do to stop you from coming in here?" Clarke whispers.
"Get better." Finn replies.
"If he's not sick by now, then he's probably immune like me." Octavia tells Clarke.
I can see Murphy hop out of a hammock and motions toward it. "Here. Come on. She can take mine." Finn sets Clarke down in the newly free hammock.
We gather around Clarke and stand over her. "What else did Lincoln tell you?" Finn asks Octavia.
"The virus doesn't last long." Octavia says.
"It's true. I feel better." Murphy speaks up from the background.
I sigh and go to sit against the wall. "So what? The grounders will be here before any of us get better." My body is fatigued and my legs sore.
"They need to stay hydrated." Clarke huffs.
"You need to stay hydrated." Finn claps back.
"Okay. Them, too. Please?" Clarke asks.
"It's okay. I'll do it. Just rest." Octavia answers.
"I'll help you." Murphy walks over to Octavia and they begin to tend to the others.
Murphy eventually makes his way to me with a cup of water and hands it to me. I take the cup and drink it weakly. "You stepped in front of a gun for me before. Why?" Murphy looks at me.
"I don't believe in the death sentence." I hand back the cup.
"You're the girl that killed her mom, right?"
I look at my hands. "You must have me mistaken-" a coughing fit cuts me off.
"Right. Well, Clarke says you need rest." Murphy says before walking away to tend to the others. I cross my arms and lean my head against the wall, hoping that I don't wake up to grounders storming the camp.
