I had a meeting with Greggory Slate. He's one of the top clients at our firm, and I needed to meet with him because I was the one who brought him in in the first place. He dropped us after his father died, but I brought him back in.

"Uh, Olivia?" Rachel entered my office.

I greeted her with a smile.

"Yeah? What's up?" I replied, sitting up straight in my chair.

"Three things." She entered my office, shutting the door behind her and sitting down on the chair in front of me. "One, I had the best date of my life last night. His name is Alex, he likes dogs, he's a super successful tax lawyer over at Wachtell.

Next, there are rumors circling around the associates that the way the new associate Harvey hired was a total nobody at Harvard, and to be honest, he seems like it.

And third, Jessica needs to see you in her office."

I took in the information Rachel gave me and thought of a response for each one.

"Tax law? Wachtell? Not bad." I smirked, teasing Rachel about her date. "And Mike Ross isn't totally bad, he just needs sharpening; and Harvey can totally do that." I said, getting up from my chair.

"Seriously? You think he's okay?" Rachel stood up after I did, smirking back at me.

"Not that way. You know I'm not for workplace romance shit." I laughed and walked out of my office, Rachel following me.

"Mhm.. sure. You are aware that Sebastian Hayes used to work here before he transferred to Skadden, right?" Rachel walked beside me as I went to Jessica's office.

"You know we were just friends."

"Then why'd he ask to marry you?"

"He was getting married the next day and he started to regret it. I said no and cut all ties with him, you know that." I scoffed. "I think he was ashamed because he put in his letter of resignation the next week. Couldn't look me in the eye."

"He and his wife got divorced, you know?" Rachel said and I stopped walking.

"They what?"

"They got divorced last year. Everyone was talking about it."

"You've got to be kidding me." I laughed and we said our goodbyes as I entered Jessica's office.

When I got in there, she seemed serious.

Not like a usual 9 AM meeting where she tells me that I need to somehow humble Harvey or she'd tell me about a client or rarely, she'd tell me about a date of hers.

And I felt the tension when I stepped in the room.

"You needed me?" I said, walking over to her desk.

"Greggory Slate is about to meet with you, correct?" She asked me, sitting up.

"Yeah, we're gonna talk about-"

"Venture capital. I know. Not anymore. "

"What?" I sat on the chair in front of her desk. "What do you mean?"

"Greggory Slate is being charged with extortion and embezzlement. I sent you an email just now with an article about it from the Daily." Jessica said, ever so bluntly.

I sat there in shock. What? Why? How?

It seems like she read my mind because she gave me an answer to all those questions.

"And you're gonna find out why because if he's guilty, this is going to be an extremely public case for the firm if we continue to represent the man. We're not even representing Slate Industries at this point, we're representing Greggory Slate. We've publicly worked with his family for decades, so we can't just drop him now. Our name is going to be dragged through the mud." Jessica added.
