PRESENT DAY; December 2011.
I step out of the elevator, into Pearson-Hardman.
"Ooooh, nice skirt." Rachel Zane greets me. She's been one of my closest friends ever since she got here.
"Thanks! It's Versace custom. Donatella owed Harvey and I one." I walked with her down the hallway.
I had my own office. I mean — not to brag or anything — but I've been dominating this office ever since I got my law degree.
"So, anything new to work on, Miss Specter?" Rachel teased.
"I just finished the Johnson-Tow Merger. Turns out, Tow just needed a bit of pushing." I replied. I was just waiting for another case for Louis to give out. I brought in over 30 clients this month, so I thought maybe leave some work for Louis.
I had been an associate for a little over 9 months now. But I used to be a paralegal, whilst in law school.
Ever since I became an actual lawyer, people started to treat me like something. Everyone really just saw me as Harvey's little sister when I was a paralegal, which I despised.
I said a quick 'see you later' to Rachel as I entered my office and she walked over to hers, which was a few offices down.
The office that only 2 offices away was Harvey's; and I often spend my free time drinking his whiskey and fidgeting with his records.
My thoughts are blocked due to Louis Litt entering my office.
Ugh.
"Olivia."
"Louis."
"Did you go over the Garmond briefs?" Louis asked me.
"Yes, Louis. I drafted the contracts you wanted too. They're on your desk. Donna put them there." I scoffed, typing something up on my computer.
"You're a first year, Olivia, not a fifth. Remember that." He gave me this weird look along with a weirder chuckle.
"I know that. Would you rather have me slacking off like your vision of a first year?" I looked up at him as he was standing on the other side of my desk.
"I want a report on the Springers case that Harold's working on. He's not gonna fix it, so you will. Get it done by tomorrow at noon." He said, leaving my office.
God, help me to not strangle this man soon.
A few minutes later, I found out why Louis was acting like he had something up his ass.
"Harvey needs you." Donna said, peeking her head into my office.
I rolled my eyes and got up from my chair.
"When does he not?" I whined like a spoiled little girl.
Donna just laughed at me and walked with me to Harvey's office.
"He's gonna tell you something important; I just know it. I read it in his eyes." Donna claimed.
Donna has always been like my older sister; a counterpart to Harvey.
Without Donna, there will be no Harvey.
"Fortunately, I believe you." I laughed softly.
I entered Harvey's office and he had a glass of whiskey in his hand.
"It's 10:03 in the morning." I checked my watch. "You really wanna be drinking?"
"Sit." He gestured to the sofa in his office.
I got shivers. Why was he so serious? He was never that serious with me.
"Uh, did I commit some sort of crime?" I asked and sat on the couch.
He stood in front of me and took a sip of his whiskey.
"Jessica made me Senior Partner." Harvey told me.
I was extremely happy for him; this was a step closer to having his name on the wall.
"That's great!" I exclaimed.
I hugged him. Harvey Specter was not a hugger, but I don't give a shit. Surprisingly, the man hugged back. He was genuinely happy and I liked that.
I pulled away and he poured me a glass of whiskey.
"So that's why Louis was pissed as hell and gave me someone else's assignment." I scoffed.
"Damn straight. I deserve this promotion more than he does." He said, handing me the glass. "Here's the deal. You, Donna, and I are going to Chilton tomorrow to interview a bunch of uptight douches with their heads far up their asses to be my associate; but we find someone different in that crowd. Someone who actually has a career ahead of them and not just gonna rot in a cubicle drafting and not getting contracts signed. You know what I mean?"
"Sure. But why don't I be your associate?" I curiously asked, finishing my whiskey in one sip. "I know you inside and out, we'd make a kick-ass lawyer duo as much as a sibling duo, I graduated from Harvard Law, I'm a great attorney, and I'm your sister. I could list 50 other reasons but it's pointless. I'm clearly the perfect candidate."
"That's the thing; you are the perfect candidate. But that's also the thing; you're my sister. Three reasons: Everyone's gonna think both you and I took some sort of easy route, Jessica would beat my ass about hiring you and not some new idiot, and I don't want you to be anyone's associate. I want you to be the associate that Jessica turns into Partner." Harvey said.
"Awwee, you care about your little sister."
"Ahaha, get out of my office."
I smiled at him and left his whiskey glass on his desk. I mouthed at him, "you love me," and laughed exiting his office.
"He's senior partner." I told Donna.
"I told you so." She replied.

THE NEXT DAY
I woke up to my phone ringing.
I checked to see who called at 5:23 in the morning.
Harvey Reginald Specter.
I ignored the call, obviously, it's not even 5:30! My alarm hasn't gone off!
Harvey doesn't need me right now. He can call Donna for all I care.
The phone keeps ringing for the next 2 minutes.
And again. And again. And again.
I gave up and picked up the goddamn phone.
"Fuck you." Are the first words that came out of my mouth that day.
"Get out of bed and get ready. Interviews are at 7." Harvey said over the phone.
"You didn't even let my alarm ring." I whined.
"Do I sound like I give a shit?" He replied. "Oh, and be doll yourself up more than usual. I wanna rattle these boys."
Harvey only ever talked extremely casually to the people he was really comfortable with. And I'm sick of it.
Joke. I love my brother; sometimes.
"The most you need to rattle them is your rat face." I laughed at myself as I got up and got out of my room to make a pot of coffee.
"Haha. Bye." He hung up the phone.
I was genuinely curious to meet the interviewees. I wanted to know what characteristics they possessed. What aspects does Pearson-Hardman look for in a lawyer? I wanted to witness it first-hand. And I'd be able to play with the interview as well.
This is gonna be fun.
A/N: Hope everyone enjoyed this chapter!! I'm all for slow burn, so MAYBE this'll be somewhat of a slow burn story. And btw, if you like my writing style and Gilmore Girls, check out my GG story called "Lily Danes"!!
